1965 Morgan Plus Four Coupe

In 1962 Morgan achieved success at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. A Morgan +4 Super Sports prepared by the company and Chris Lawrence competed and won the 2-liter class. That car was driven by Lawrence and Richard Sheppard-Baron. In 1964 the Morgan +4 chassis, with a tuned and race-prepared Triumph TR4 engine, was used as the basis for the SLR, a racing car designed by Chris Lawrence and John Sprinzel. The lightweight aerodynamic aluminum body, built by Williams & Pritchard, delivered a top speed far in excess of the 134 mph achieved by the standard +4 at LeMans on the Mulsanne Straight. This is one of three SLRs built on the Morgan chassis, and it is still actively campaigned in historic racing.
