The Ferrari 550 Barchetta was first shown to the public at the 2000 Paris Motor Show. It was built to celebrate Pininfarina's 70 anniversary and their long relationship with Ferrari. Power was from a alloy, 48-valve, four-cam engine that gave the open-top car a top speed of 185 mph.
This example is the 315th of only 448 550 Barchettas ever built. It is painted in Rosso Corsa over a tan leather interior and fitted with the classic Scuderia shields.
The car was originally delivered to Europe and sold in Monaco in May 2002 and was subsequently imported into the United States that September. A short time later, it made its concours debut at the Cavallino Concours held at the Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach.
By 2003, the car had accumulated less than 200 miles and had relocated from Florida to the Chicago area. By 2010, when this car was brought to auction, the car had less than 1,000 miles from new.
In 2010, this Ferrari was brought to Gooding & Company's Scottsdale Auction where it was estimated to sell for $125,000 - $175,000 and offered without reserve. When bidding came to a close, the lot had been sold for the sum of $156,750 including buyer's premium.By Daniel Vaughan | Feb 2010
