Packard introduced a less expensive model in 1937 called the Packard Six. It was similar to the larger 120, yet was priced less than $200 above a comparably-equipped Ford. These lower-priced cars helped stimulate sales for the struggling manufacturer in the wake of the Great Depression.
In 1940, Packard moved the entry-level price point up slightly with the launch of the six-cylinder 110 line. The public responded and nearly 63,000 units were sold in its first year. The 110 was available as a two- or four-door sedan, a convertible, and a station wagon.
This 110 Woodie wears coachwork by Hercules and its odometer shows less than 50,000 miles on the odometer. The original owner was a doctor who had homes in Wisconsin, Florida, and Rhode Island, where the car was primarily kept. The car would remain in his care for nearly five decades.
In 2010, it was offered for sale at the Gooding & Company Auction held in Scottsdale, Arizona. It was estimated to sell for $125,000 - $145,000. As bidding came to a close, the lot was sold for the sum of $145,750, inclusive of the buyer's premium.By Daniel Vaughan | Feb 2010
