    1915 Mercer 22-70 Navigation
For many people, the Mercer was a racecar. The famous Mercers were but one of various models produced by the company during the two plus decades of its existence. Behind the Mercer venture were the wealthy Roebling family of Savannah and the Kuser family, who had been involved in the building of the Brooklyn Bridge. Roebling invented the coiled wire rope used to suspend the bridge.

The first Mercer cars arrived in 1910. Racing was big and international in Savannah in the early days of racing, and Mercer was the king of racing. 'The Mercer was the Steinway of the automobile world.'

The Mercer Company was already on a rocky road financially when Washington A. Roebling II died in the disaster of the Titanic. Mercer produced 931 cars in 1915.
