1958 Bocar XP-4 Navigation
The Bocar was the brainchild of Colorado entrepreneur Bob Carnes (the name came from combining the first several letters of his first and last names). It was designed in the great tradition of the 1950s sports racers as a true dual-purpose car - one that could be both raced competitively and also driven on the street. For the era, the car's performance was stunning with Motor Trend recording 0-60 in about six seconds and a top speed of 160 mph. Like most low-production American specials of the era, the Bocar XP4 has a fiberglass body covering a specially built tube chassis. The XP4, number four of just 67 Bocars built, is powered by a 283 cubic-inch Chevrolet Corvette engine developing nearly 400 horsepower mated to a four-speed Muncie transmission. The suspension is a combination of a Buick-sourced live rear axle and highly modified Porsche torsion bars in front.
