World's Largest Collector-Car Auction Company to Showcase 2,000 Vehicles

Walworth, Wis. – April 6, 2017 – What began at the kitchen table of Dana and Patti Mecum's suburban Chicago home in 1988, today is the world's largest collector-car auction company. In celebration of that monumental growth and achievement in a landmark anniversary year for the company, Dana Mecum's 30th Original Spring Classic will return to Indianapolis May 16-21 with an estimated 2,000 consignments from several prestigious collections and a vast assortment of American muscle cars, classics, Corvettes, Hot Rods, Resto Mods and more at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

The Spring Classic auction is recognized by many as the original, largest and best muscle-car auction in the world, and it serves as the very foundation on which Mecum Auctions was established. The six-day auction has historically attracted consignments from across North America and tens of thousands of attendees annually.

Among the highlights of this year's Spring Classic auction is a 1965 Ford Mustang that features serial number 00002 and is recognized as the first Ford Mustang hardtop to receive a VIN. Also in the lineup is a rarely seen 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle LS6 convertible, a 1963 Chevrolet Impala Z11 raced by Larry Wilson and a Bloomington Gold Benchmark-awarded 1967 Corvette convertible, to name a few.

This year's auction is also heavily populated with notable private collections including The Bob McDorman Collection of Columbus, Ohio, consisting of more than 40 vehicles including 22 of the late Bob McDorman's favorite Corvettes. All of his vehicles will cross the block at no reserve during the catalog collection showcase on Thursday, May 18. Among the featured lots from the collection is a 1953 Oldsmobile Fiesta convertible that is one of 458 produced in 1953 and the beneficiary of a frame-off restoration completed with a factory color combination of Raven Red over Alpine White. Another featured offering from the collection is a 1953 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster that sports serial number 64 of the 300 produced in 1953.

Collections from Dennis Albaugh, Larry Klairmont and Mike Guarise will be 2017 auction highlights, as well as nine desirably optioned vehicles from the Jim Lynch Collection and 30 classic muscle cars at no reserve from the Dallas and Ammie Hawkins Collection. Renowned Yenko collector Cliff Ernst will also bring a selection of vehicles to the auction including a 1969 Chevrolet Yenko Camaro, a 1970 Chevrolet Yenko Deuce and a 1968 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet raced by 'Dyno' Don Nicholson.

Dana Mecum's 30th Original Spring Classic auction is open to buyers, sellers and spectators. Bidder registration is available online in advance for $100, $200 after auction start, and includes admission for two to each auction day.
