This restomod features a 5.0L Coyote V8 and a 10-speed automatic transmission, combining the Ringbrothers typical extreme performance and design background with a more traditional restoration.
SPRING GREEN, Wis. — Ringbrothers, the world-renowned custom car builders and parts manufacturer, today unveiled its latest creation – a resto-mod 1968 Mercury Cougar. The stunning Cougar makes a healthy 460 horsepower from its Ford Coyote 5.0L V8 engine connected to a 10-speed paddle-shifted automatic transmission borrowed from the Ford F-150 Raptor.
Ringbrothers gave the Cougar a frame-off restoration that included new floor pans and transmission tunnel, new performance suspension by DSE, brakes, and HRE Series C1 C103 Forged 3-Piece wheels wrapped in Michelin tires. The Ringbrothers team completed the show-quality bodywork thanks to 3M's bodywork products and fresh BASF paint, and a new bumper, grille, hardware and badging finish off the appearance. Under the hood, Motul synthetic oil keeps the engine running smoothly, while a custom Flowmaster exhaust provides an aggressive growl.
'We put our heart into each car we build, and this Cougar is no exception,' said Ringbrothers co-owner Jim Ring. 'The finished product is mild and classy, yet any enthusiast instantly knows it's not stock. I imagine this is what Mercury designers would have come up with if they were building the Cougar today.'
'While we couldn't bring the car to the SEMA Show, we hope it can be shown to the public soon,' continued Mike Ring, co-owner of Ringbrothers. 'We had never done a Cougar before, so this was a fun build. I love working with new shapes and coming up with new ideas.'
