Mecum Auctions rocked the crowds during the annual Monterey Car Week with an auction that became a pronounced success achieving an overall $54 million in total sales and featuring nearly a dozen top sellers that broke into the seven-figure range. The auction-headlining 1969 Ford GT40 Lightweight (Lot S90) became the No. 1 top-selling car at Mecum Monterey 2024 demanding $7,865,000, followed by an incredible bidder battle for the world's most valuable 1969 Dodge Hemi Daytona (Lot S99), which ultimately sold for $3.36 million. The 2024 Mecum Monterey auction, held at Del Monte Golf Course in Monterey, California, also featured awe-inspiring unveilings of several consignments to be offered at future Mecum auctions, including Steve McQueen's Porsche 917K from the 1971 film 'Le Mans.'

Highlighted by both strong individual and overall sales, the Mecum Monterey auction boasted outstanding engagement among Car Week attendees. Top sales at the Monterey auction included an exceptional variety of makes and models serving as an excellent reflection of the diversity typically found at Mecum events. Ford, Dodge, Ferrari, Plymouth, Porsche, Packard, Mercedes-Benz and even Chevrolet all found a place among the top-10 selling vehicles, and all of them exceeded the million-dollar mark with the majority falling into the multimillion-dollar territory. Motorcycles lived up to pre-auction expectations as well, with a handful of top offerings achieving strong six-figure sales, including a 1913 Henderson Four (Lot F108) at $132,000 and an iconic 1947 Harley-Davidson EL Deluxe Knucklehead (Lot T107) that brought $110,000.

Perhaps the most newsworthy occurrence of all in Monterey was the dramatic Friday morning reveal of Steve McQueen's Porsche 917K, the hero car from the 1971 movie 'Le Mans,' which will be offered at The World's Largest Collector Car Auction this Jan. 7-19 in Kissimmee, Florida.
