McLaren Automotive hosted the extraordinary talent of Japanese professional skateboarder Yuto Horigome at the McLaren Technology Centre. The two-time Olympic gold medallist, and three-time X-Games gold medallist, visited the McLaren headquarters, exploring the facilities of the 2024 World Constructors' Championship winning McLaren Formula 1 team, touring the state-of-the-art McLaren Production Centre, before experiencing the amplified performance of the new Artura Spider on road.
Horigome, a gold medallist in men's Street Skateboarding at the 2020 Tokyo and 2024 Paris Olympic Games, then demonstrated his own performance capabilities on the MTC boulevard, captured on video alongside other highlights of his visit to McLaren HQ.
An area of the boulevard – typically home to a showcase of McLaren Automotive heritage and current production vehicles, priceless examples of McLaren Formula 1 racers, and the trophies won by McLaren during its more than six-decades of competing in the highest echelons of global motorsport – was transformed into a skate park. And it was here that Horigome performed a huge ollie over an Artura coupe, clearing the ramp-to-ramp gap cleanly and with precision.
Alongside his experience driving the Artura Spider - and tricking over an Artura coupe on his skateboard - Horigome visited McLaren Shadow to experience the simulators McLaren's Esports division uses to compete in the digital realm.
As a parting gift, Horigome was also presented with a skateboard deck custom painted by McLaren Special Operations, McLaren's bespoke personalization division.
'Coming to McLaren to see the supercars and drive one too was something a little different for me, and so much fun! And to skate inside a building like this, with permission to do tricks among the racing cars, was very unique.'
