BLENHEIM, Ontario (July 29, 2014) – RM Auctions, the official auction house of the Concours d'Elegance of America at St. John's, celebrated 20 years of thrilling auctions in the Detroit area on the weekend by presenting a diverse roster of automobiles and posting $7.4 million in total sales at its annual Motor City sale in Michigan.

A featured attraction of the Concours d'Elegance of America at St. John's weekend, the Motor City sale lifted the gavel on an eclectic mix of 77 vehicles and one classic boat, with 77 percent of all lots sold. Bidders represented 10 countries, including Germany, Australia, and the emerging markets of Russia and the UAE. Within the U.S., bidders came from 31 states, with strong interest demonstrated by collectors from America's mid-west.

'With its rich automotive history and culture, the Motor City again provided a fantastic backdrop for our annual Michigan sale,' says Mike Fairbairn, Specialist, RM Auctions. 'In addition to featuring many vehicles that were built and conceived in Detroit, we were pleased to expand the scope of the sale this year to include more European classics, which found ready buyers. We were also proud to return as the longest running sponsor of the Concours d'Elegance of America at St. John's. All in all, it was a great weekend and a wonderful illustration of the passion that drives our hobby.'

Top sales honors went to the 1911 Mercedes 38/70HP Seven-Passenger Touring with coachwork in the style of Vanvooren, which achieved a strong final price of $495,000 to applause from the audience.
