◾Pierre Casiraghi and Albert of Thurn and Taxis make guest appearances

Grand farewell for the Scirocco R-Cup: after 17 successful years, the curtain falls for the final time on Volkswagen's one-make cup this weekend, with celebrity guest starters Albert of Thurn and Taxis (D) and Pierre Casiraghi (MC) on hand to bid farewell to the series in Hockenheim. An announcement regarding who will take over this platform will be made on the sixth and final race weekend of the season, on 17th and 18th October. The duel for second place in the championship between Jason Kremer (D) and Victor Bouveng (S) is set to take centre stage out on track in the final race of the environmentally-sound one-make cup. South African Jordan Lee Pepper had already secured the title at the Nürburgring.

All you need to know about the final race weekend in Hockenheim

+++ Hockenheim will host the final race of Volkswagen's iconic touring car school. The talent factory's success story began in 1998 with the ADAC Volkswagen Lupo Cup (originally known as the ADAC Volkswagen Touring Junior Cup in its first year), which continued to train numerous talented young drivers right through to 2003. This was succeeded from 2004 to 2009 by the ADAC Volkswagen Polo Cup, the winners of which include reigning ADAC GT Masters champion Rene Rast. From 2010 it was the turn of the Scirocco R-Cup to enjoy a further five successful years, and that very series is now set for a fitting finale at the Formula One circuit in Hockenheim. The future of the one-make cup within the Volkswagen Group – a closely kept secret up to now – will be revealed in Hockenheim. +++

+++ Albert of Thurn and Taxis (31) – Prince Albert II – is the head of the royal house of Thurn and Taxis. The owner of the largest private estate in Germany has been a passionate and successful racing driver for over a decade. He launched his career in the touring car school that was the ADAC Volkswagen Lupo Cup, a predecessor of the Scirocco R-Cup. He raced in this series in 2001 and 2002, before switching to the Maserati Trofeo. Albert of Thurn and Taxis' greatest successes have come in GT racing: having finished runner-up in 2007 and 2008, he won the ADAC GT Masters title with the Reiter Engineering team in 2010. He lined up in the ADAC GT Masters in a 650-hp Camaro in 2014. +++

+++ Like Albert of Thurn and Taxis, PierreCasiraghi (27) also made his racing debut in Volkswagen's one-make cup. Making a guest appearance at the opening round of the season in Hockenheim, rookie Casiraghi finished 20th and 22nd and impressed experts with his spectacular style of driving. The son of Princess Caroline of Hannover, heir to the throne of Monaco, had previously only driven in the iconic vintage car rally in Monte Carlo. Casiraghi started in Volkswagen's iconic one-make cup on the recommendation of legendary racing driver Jacky Ickx (69) – the Volkswagen ambassador, whose achievements include eight Formula One wins, six victories at the Le Mans 24 Hours, and one triumph at the Paris Dakar Rally. +++

+++ The royal duo will be joined by another two guest starters: Robertas Kupcikas (31) and Joe Fulbrook (43). Experienced Brit Fulbrook won the Volkswagen Racing Cup Great Britain for the third time, after 2008 and 2009, to earn his place on the grid. Lithuania's Kupcikas was crowned champion of the Volkswagen Castrol Cup Poland for the second time at the end of September, having first won the series eight years ago. Incidentally, both guest drivers won their respective titles in a Golf. +++

+++ The most successful driver in the history of the Scirocco R-Cup at the Hockenheimring is Sweden's Ola Nilsson (27). He won one race in the inaugural season (2010) and bagged a brace of wins in 2012. This year's champion, Jordan Lee Pepper of South Africa (18) has two wins to his name, having won both races at this year's season opener. Kelvin van der Linde (18) won the final race of last year's season at the same track to claim the title. This year, the talented South African joined forces with former Volkswagen Junior René Rast (27) to win the ADAC GT Masters with the Prosperia C. Abt Sportsline team. +++

+++ Jordan Lee Pepper could follow his compatriot into the same renowned racing series next year. The teenager has already completed tests at the wheel of an Audi for the Prosperia C. Abt Racing team. Pepper's dream is to team up with his good friend Kelvin van der Linde in an all-South African duo, which would also pair the last two Scirocco R-Cup champions together. +++

+++ Jordan Lee Pepper claimed his fifth win in the ninth race of the season to wrap up the title in the environmentally-sound one-make cup, which features natural gas-powered cars, on the penultimate race weekend at the Nürburgring. With a lead of 50 points over Jason Kremer (D/19), Pepper can no longer be caught at the top of the overall standings – despite 50 points being awarded to the winner in Hockenheim – due to his higher number of victories. Kremer (279 points) will do battle with 18-year-old Swede Victor Bouveng (273) for second place overall at the Hockenheimring. +++

+++ The race for the title in the Junior competition has come right down to the wire in Hockenheim. Three drivers go into the final race of the season with a mathematical chance of clinching victory: Denmark's Nicolaj Møller Madsen (21) leads the Junior class with 311 points, followed by 17-year-old Moritz Oberheim (D/292) and 18-year-old Frenchman Yann Ehrlacher (267). +++

+++ The question of which of the four female drivers in the field will end the season with the most points to their name, and thus earn the unofficial title of 'Ladies Champion', will also be decided at the grand finale of the Scirocco R-Cup. Swedish driver Mikaela Ahlin-Kottulinsky (21), whose victory at the Norisring made her the first lady ever to win a race in the environmentally-sound one-make cup, is without doubt the best-placed of the quartet coming into the race at the Hockenheimring. She currently lies eighth overall with 184 points to her name. France's Lucile Cypriano (18), who earned her place in the Scirocco R-Cup by winning a talent competition run by the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission, is eleventh with 144 points. Swiss Jasmin Preisig (22) in 17th and German playmate Doreen Seidel (29) in 20th have also more than caught the eye over the course of the season. +++

+++ The only German ever to have won at the Hockenheimring in the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup was Kris Heidorn (25) in 2010. He triumphed in the final race of the year to become the only German champion. +++

+++ 17 male drivers and four female drivers from eight different countries have featured regularly in the 2014 Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup. Incidentally, as well as the many talented youngsters, this season's field also included an old hand: Michael Müller is 53 years old and owns several Volkswagen dealerships. +++

+++ As usual in the Volkswagen one-make cup, the drivers are able to use the Push-to-pass system, which increases the performance of the Scirocco by 50 hp to 210 kW (285 hp) for a limited time. The number of Push-to-Pass uses is restricted to six in free practice, while the system is not permitted in qualifying. In the race, the number of times a driver may use Push-to-Pass depends on his/her start position. Drivers at the rear of the grid have more uses at their disposal than those at the head of the field. The fuel used in the Cup Scirocco is environmentally-sound natural gas, provided by partner GAZPROM. +++

+++ The predecessor to today's Hockenheimring was built in 1932. The circuit consisted of 12 kilometres along unsurfaced forest roads and was originally used as a motorcycle track. The circuit remained unsurfaced until 1935 and was sprayed with water between races to reduce the amount of dust generated. +++

+++ The Scirocco R-Cups will reach their top speed at the Hockenheimring in the Parabolica corner. Here, the drivers accelerate to speeds of up to 200 km/h in sixth gear. The circuit is 4.574 kilometres long and features 17 corners. +++

Quotes ahead of the sixth race weekend in Hockenheim

Jost Capito, Volkswagen Motorsport Director: 'The season finale of the 2014 Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup in Hockenheim sees us send our very last group of graduates into the world of motorsport on the back of a top-class education. Volkswagen's touring car school is shutting up shop after a number of exciting, successful and sometimes wild years in the Lupo, Polo and Scirocco Cup. We are proud to have paved the way for numerous talented drivers to take the step up into higher motorsport classes. I am looking forward to a worthy and exciting final weekend.'

Albert of Thurn and Taxis, guest starter in the Scirocco R-Cup: 'This means I will now have driven the Lupo, Polo and now the Scirocco. I can proudly say that I have been a part of motorsport history in one-make cups with Volkswagen. Pierre Casiraghi is a good friend and I am really pleased that he has also been able to take his first steps in motorsport with Volkswagen. I am looking forward to the grand finale in Hockenheim.'

Pierre Casiraghi, guest starter in the Scirocco R-Cup: 'I had a fantastic weekend in the Cup-Scirocco at the season opener in Hockenheim. My first time in the cockpit of a racing car was hugely enjoyable. The drivers, mechanics and the entire Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup team made me feel extremely welcome as a rookie. That whet my appetite and is why I am so happy to be back in action at the finale. I know the circuit now and am looking forward to the race – particularly as my good friend Albert of Thurn and Taxis will also be racing.'

Manuel Fahnauer, starter in the Scirocco R-Cup: 'I have had a very good season so far. I am currently sixth with one race to go. However, my goal for the season is to finish fourth, and I am still 18 points off achieving that. I could still do it with a win in the final race of the season though. My second and third place at the season opener in Hockenheim proved that I am capable of challenging for a win there. Having said that, it will be tough to beat Jordan Lee Pepper, as he has had an extremely strong season.'

Yann Ehrlacher, starter in the Scirocco R-Cup: 'I have set my sights on defending third place overall in the Junior Cup, and maybe even catching Moritz Oberheim in second place. I am currently 15 points behind him, but can still catch him with a podium. I used the break to work on my fitness and ensure I am perfectly prepared for the final race. If I fail, it will definitely not be as a result of my physical condition.'

Simon Larsson, starter in the Scirocco R-Cup: 'I am expecting great things from the final race of the season. I have improved significantly in recent races, so am looking forward to Hockenheim. The race in Spielberg, in particular, showed me that I can also mix it with drivers who are well ahead of me in the overall standings. My goal is to finish in the top 15. Let's see, maybe I can even make it into the top ten.'

Marc Coleselli, starter in the Scirocco R-Cup: 'My goal for the finale in Hockenheim is a place on the podium. I have not managed that all season, and the final race would be a good time to pull it off. I have positive memories of Hockenheim, as I won the Junior Cup class at the season opener there. A podium would be a great end to the season for me.'
