Between 1965 and 1966, there were 98 examples of the Sebring Series II Coupes produced. This example is a matching number unit that has had only one owner for over three decades.
The Maserati Sebring was named for the company's win in the 1957 Sebring 12-hour race and evolved from the 240 short-wheelbase 3500GTI Spyders built by Vignale. These vehicles were built with the United States marketplace in mind. These 2+2 coupes had four headlights, air conditioning, an automatic gearbox option to its ZF five-speed gearbox. The seats were fitted with leather, there were four-wheel disc brakes, and many of the car has wire wheels. The 4014cc DOHC six-cylinder fuel-injected engine produced 255 horsepower which was enough to carry the car to 150 mph, with the quarter mile coming up in 16 seconds.
In 2011, the car was offered for sale at RM Auctions Arizona sale where it was estimated to sell for $60,000 - $80,000 and offered without reserve. As bidding came to a close, the car had been sold for the sum of $77,000 including buyer's premium.By Daniel Vaughan | Jan 2011
