1966 Duesenberg Model D Sedan

The year 1966 represented a potential milestone in American automotive history. It was the year that the magnificent Duesenberg automobile was to return. It was said, that no other automobile ever produced achieved the standards of motoring excellence and elegance as the original Duesenberg. The new car was to surpass those standards.

Coachwork was handcrafted in Italy by Carrozzeria Ghia. Power was from a 425 horsepower Chrysler 440 cubic-inch V8. Assembly was to take place in Indianapolis, and the initial body style was to be a four-door brougham sedan. Options included built-in televisions and bars. Future plans included a convertible. The car was set to sell for a Rolls-Royce-like price of nearly $20,000. Fifty orders were taken.

But, the second coming of Duesenberg was short-lived. The financier was not thrilled with the timeline of the project. So he took his money and went and ought racehorses instead. This one-off prototype was displayed in the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Museum for 30 years.
