1964 Studebaker Avanti R4

The Avanti R4 engine was dreamed up by Andy Granatelli while he was waiting for the Avantis pre-production problems to be solved. The R4 was a high-performance variation of the unsupercharged R1 engine, as the R3 was a hi-po R2. Although the R4 engine was optional in 1964, none were produced before the Avanti was discontinued by Studebaker in December 1963 after the plant was closed.
