The 1996 Jaguar XJ-Sedan consisted of the XJ6, XJR, JX12, and the Vanden Plas series. All were 4-door sedans with prices ranging from $56,320 to $79,370. The base engine powered the XJ6 was a dual-overhead cam unit offering 245 horsepower. With the help of a Roots-type supercharger and intercooler, power rose to 322 BHP. This powerplant was found in the XJR. The engine in the XJ12 was an overhead-cam V12 displacing 243 CID and offering 313 BHP. A four-speed automatic was standard and disc brakes could be found at all four corners.This was the second year for the re-styled Jaguar sedan. For 1996, Jaguar modified the line with two extended wheelbase models: the XJ12 and the Vanden Plas. The base platform measured 113 inches while the long-wheelbase version measured 117.9 inches. This extra room was added to the area behind the 'B' pillar resulting in a larger backseat. Trays were placed behind the front seats adding an extra degree of luxury and comfort to the rear passengers.
