Overview
Excursion is Ford's largest sport utility vehicle. Excursion's three rows seat up to nine adults, while both interior volume and interior space are best-in-class. Excursion continues to offer customers outstanding room for both people and cargo, along with enhanced towing capacity.

For 2004, Excursion trim levels are aligned with the rest of the SÚV lineup. Available in XLS, XLT, Eddie Bauer and Limited trims, Excursion offers a variety of convenient features. It begins its first full year of production with the 6.0-liter Power Stroke® diesel engine.

The Excursion is produced with the F-Series Super Duty pickup in Louisville, Ky.

Design and Equipment
On the exterior, Excursion adds body color moldings on the XLS model for 2004. Chrome running boards are now also optional equipment on four-wheel-drive XLT, Eddie Bauer and Limited models.

New heated telescoping trailer tow mirrors with integrated turn signals and clearance lights are optional on all models.

Numerous design elements emphasize convenience. While most SÚVs offer either a tailgate or lift-glass rear cargo door, Excursion combines both designs into its Tri-Panel? door system. The door has a separate lift-glass for convenient small-parcel loading and lightweight twin swing-out composite doors with no visability-blocking center pillar.

Pueblo Gold and Toreador Red are the new exterior color choices for 2004.

On the inside, adjustable pedals are available on XLT, Eddie Bauer and Limited models. An overhead console includes auxiliary air conditioning controls, courtesy lights and bins for a garage door opener and sunglasses. A second-row overhead console incorporates auxiliary climate controls.

A dual-media audio system is standard on XLS, XLT and Eddie Bauer models. A six-disc in-dash CD player is standard on Limited.

A DVD rear seat entertainment system continues to be available on XLT, Eddie Bauer and Limited models. New for 2004, the system features wireless headpho nes, increasing convenience for rear-seat passengers.

Powertrain
Excursion is powered by a choice of three engines and can tow up to 11,000 pounds when properly equipped.

The 5.4-liter SOHC Triton V-8 engine is standard on two-wheel-drive models and produces 255 horsepower and 350 foot-pounds of torque.

The 6.8-liter SOHC Triton V-10 engine, standard on the Eddie Bauer and Limited four-wheel-drive and optional on other models, offers 310 horsepower and 425 foot-pounds of torque.

The 6.0-liter Power Stroke® V-8 engine is a direct-injection, 32-valve diesel with a cast-iron block and cylinder heads. Combined with a five-speed TorqShift? automatic transmission, the diesel powertrain delivers 325 horsepower and 560 foot-pounds of torque - both best in class.

The diesel powertrain offers a Tow-Haul Mode feature that, once activated, can help increase a driver's feeling of control when towing large loads up and down steep grades and automatically minimizes shifts and maximizes available torque.

Safety and Security
The 2004 Excursion offers BlockerBeam front bumper under-ride protection for crash compatibility with smaller vehicles. Second- generation driver and front passenger air bags add protection in frontal collisions. Steel side door beams help protect passengers in certain side impacts. Three-point safety belts are in all outboard seating positions; child safety seat tethers and anchors are in the rear seats; and the vehicle is equipped with the BeltMinder system to encourage safety belt use by the driver.

The Excursion is equipped with Ford's Reverse Sensing System, which is optional on XLT and standard on Eddie Bauer and Limited.
