The Triumph Spitfire Mark III was produced from 1967 through 1970, with a total of 65,320 examples produced. The Mark III was the first major restyling for the Spitfire and included a front bumper that complied with new crash regulations. In the back, the over-riders from the bumper were removed and replaced with reversing lights as standard. The interior was given a wood-veneer instrument surround. Under the hood was a 1296cc four-cylinder overhead-valve engine with two carburetors that produced 65 horsepower. Zero-to-sixty mph was in the 14.5-second range, with top speed achieved just south of 100 mph. The 1969 models destined for the United States were given safety and emission modifications to comply with US regulations.
