GORDON FINISHES NINTH IN STAGE 9 AT DAKAR RALLYCALAMA, Chile (Jan. 13, 2015) – Robby Gordon resumed his racing activities in the 37th Dakar Rally Tuesday after the event's rest day in Iquique, Chile, and scored a ninth-place finish in Stage 9, which marks his fourth top 10 in the 13-stage competition.

Gordon started among the top 20 of the 76 competitors in the car division for Tuesday's race after low oil pressure in the previous stage relegated him to a 17th-place finish. The Stage 9 course presented many challenges with dust and complex navigation, but Gordon and navigator Johnny Campbell were able to successfully race their way through the timed section and finish 35 minutes and 59 seconds behind winner Nani Roma of Spain – the defending Dakar Rally champion.

Gordon is now scored in the 20th position overall, 7 hours, 22 minutes and 53 seconds behind the leader Nasser Al-Attiyah of Qatar. Four stages remain in the world's most challenging endurance race and Gordon – America's only Dakar competitor – aims to secure at least one stage victory before the Rally is completed on Saturday.

Al-Attiyah increased his lead margin to 23 minutes and 58 seconds over Giniel De Villiers of South Africa, and 39 minutes and 29 seconds over Yazeed Alrajhi of Saudi Arabia. All remaining competitors in the car division are more than one hour behind Al-Attiyah.

The teams will return to Argentina Wednesday on a long 501-kilometer (311 miles) liaison, followed by a 369-kilometer (229 mile) timed special at high altitude. Along the Chile-Argentina border, the cars will start the race at 3,600 meters (11,800 feet) and will finish the day on a liaison at more than 4,970 meters (16,300 feet). More than one driver became physically ill when the cars last drove at such high altitudes on Saturday.
