2006 Audi TT

Inspired by the renowned Tourist Trophy auto race that began on the Isle of Man in 1905, the TTÒ represents a collaboration of art, engineering, and exhiliration. Both the TT Coupe and Roadster combine cutting-edge - yet timeless - design with sports car performance.

Available as a Coupe or Roadster – configured with either a 1.8 T or 3.2 liter V6 engine, coupled with the revolutionary Direct Shift Gearbox (DSGÒ), six-speed manual, or six-speed TiptronicÒ automatic transmissions – drivers have plenty of choices to equip the TT to their liking.

Engine and Transmission Choices

The most powerful engine choice for the 2006 Audi TT is a 3.2-liter V6. With 250 horsepower at 6,300 revolutions per minute and peak torque of 236 lbs. ft. across a range of 2,800 to 3,200 rpm, the TT 3.2 is capable of reaching 60 miles per hour in 5.7 seconds as a Coupe and 6.0 seconds as a Roadster. Audi's renowned DSG comes standard on the TT 3.2 quattro® S-line along with quattro all-wheel drive.

During operation, DSG engages one gear and pre-selects the next based on the approaching point of the next up- or downshift. When the shift process occurs — either automatically or by driver input via the shift lever or the racing-style, steering wheel- mounted shift-paddles — the clutch of the engaged gear opens as the clutch of the next pre-selected gear closes. The gear change takes place under load, with a certain overlap, resulting in a permanent flow of power.

The 2006 Audi TT 1.8 T 180 hp Coupe and Roadster feature a six-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic manual-shift capability. In full automatic mode, the six-speed automatic offers exhilarating driving for those who simply want to get in and drive. A Sport ('S') mode that delays up-shifts and advances downshifts is available for those seeking a performance boost while in full-automatic mode. For Audi TT 1.8 T drivers who prefer more interactive shifting, the six-speed automatic's Tiptronic controls on the steering wheel and at the shift gate allow for manual shifting.

The 180-hp version (not available in Canada) of Audi's renowned 1.8 T four-cylinder turbocharged engine has a peak torque of 173 lbs. ft. across a range of 1,950-4,700 revolutions per minute. Combined with front-wheel drive, full-time Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR) traction control, and six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission, the Audi TT 1.8 T Coupe runs from 0-60 miles per hour in 7.8 seconds, or 8.1 seconds for the similarly equipped Roadster.

The 2006 Audi TT 1.8 T also is available as a 225-hp model featuring a close-ratio, six-speed manual transmission and Audi quattro all-wheel drive. The 225-hp engine has a peak torque of 207 lbs. ft. across a range of 2,200-5,500 rpm, sprinting the 225-hp TT Coupe from 0-60 mph in 6.0 seconds. A similarly equipped TT Roadster moves from 0-60 mph in 6.2 seconds.

All 2006 Audi TT models come standard with several electronic traction enhancers that ensure the TT never loses its composure. Electronic Stabilization Program (ESPÒ), Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS), Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR, front-wheel drive only), Electronic Brake-pressure Distribution (EBD), and Electronic Differential Lock (EDL) all work together to make sure the Audi TT has proper traction where ever – and whenever – its needed.

Harmony between style and comfort

Just because the Audi TT is an artfully styled sports car doesn't mean the driver has to sacrifice comfort in the name of style. Fine Nappa leather seats, automatic climate control with sun sensor and dust and pollen filter, driver information display with five-function trip computer, power windows and central locking, anti-theft vehicle alarm system, cruise control, tilt and telescoping steering column, and electric outside mirrors with defog feature are just some of the comfort features that come standard on the TT.

Along with these features is aluminum trim on the dashboard vents, shift lever knob and base, knee bolsters and cup holders on the center console, door release handles, radio cover, and glove box cover. The aluminum trim adds a level of style and sporty overtones to the luxurious interior of the TT.

The exterior styling of the TT is what truly sets it apart from any other car on the road. Standard on all TT models are six-spoke 17' wheels with 225/45 R17 performance tires. Optional all-season tires are available for the standard wheels. The 225-hp TT Quattro and 250-hp TT 3.2 quattro S-line are also available with seven-spoke 18' wheels with 225/40 R18 performance tires.

Aluminum doorsills and fuel filler door, body color outside mirrors, and a fixed rear spoiler add to the sporty character of the TT. The Roadster also comes with two fixed roll bars finished with polished aluminum. The TT 3.2 quattro S-line adds a revised front spoiler that has been aerodynamically optimized and incorporates side gills and enlarged inlet openings to meet engine air-cooling requirements. A modified and enlarged rear spoiler and a honeycomb-pattern diffuser help reduce rear end lift, and S-line badges on the side moldings signify the unique package of the TT 3.2 quattro S-line.

The 2006 Audi TT 225-hp quattro and 3.2 quattro S-line Roadsters have a standard power-folding top with heated glass rear window. Lowering the power top is a quick, two-step process; simply release the single-point secure-lock handle and give it a quarter-turn twist, then use the electric switch on the center console.

A foldable tonneau is easily put in place and adds a neat, finished appearance. TT Roadsters also offer as standard equipment a power glass rear windscreen that follows the shape of the rollover bars and reduces wind buffeting in the cabin when driving with the top down.

Safety

Like all Audi models, the TT is packed with safety features: driver and passenger front, side, and head air bags, seat belt pre-tensioners, Xenon high intensity discharge headlights with automatic self-leveling and light adjustment, fender mounted side turn indicators, high pressure headlight washing system, and a first-aid kit are all standard. The previously mentioned ESP, ABS, EDL, and EBD also help the TT with regard to accident avoidance and driver control.

If the 2006 Audi TT is involved in a crash, the central locking system automatically unlocks the doors and switches off the fuel pump when the airbags are deployed.

Options and the Audi Advantage

The Audi TT comes available with two separate option packages as well as several stand-alone options. The Audio package consists of a BoseÒ Premium sound system and a six-disk CD changer, while the Premium Package comes with heated front seats (heated seats standard in Canada) and HomeLinkÒ universal garage door opener.

Stand alone options for 2006 include an AlcantaraÒ steering wheel, Baseball Optic leather seating (Roadster exclusive option), Navigation system, and the aforementioned optional 18' wheels and tires.

All Audi vehicles sold in North America, including the 2005 Audi TT Coupe and Roadster, come with the Audi Advantage, an outstanding combination of warranties and protection. This top-rated package includes:

• Four-year/50,000-mile no-charge scheduled maintenance

• Four-year/50,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty

• 12-year limited warranty against corrosion perforation

• 24-hour Roadside Assistance for four years provided by Road America
