In 1984, Saab sold 33,631 automobiles in the United States. The 900 vehicle was available as either a sedan or a hatchback, in base trim, the 900S, or the 900 Turbo. Pricing began at $11,110 and rose to $17,400 for the Turbo sedan. The base engine was a four-cylinder overhead-cam unit that produced 110 horsepower. The turbocharger raised the output to 135 BHP. Styling remained mostly unchanged; a noticeable difference was to the grille and the addition of front bumper extensions.
