1966 Triumph Spitfire MKII

The Triumph Spitfire 4 was introduced at the 1962 Earls Court Motor Show. It was a small, lightweight sports car designed by Michelloti and had much in common with its sibling, the Triumph Herald. The '4' in the vehicle's name referred to the four-cylinder engine. The U.K. specification examples produced 63 horsepower at 5750 RPM and had a top speed of 92 mph. Zero-to-sixty mph was achieved in 16.4 seconds, and it had an average fuel consumption of 31 mph.

The Spitfire 4 MKII was introduced in March of 1965. It was similar to the MK I, with updates to the trim, a revised camshaft, and a new exhaust design. Horsepower rose by 4bhp over the MKI. Other changes included a vinyl-covered dashboard, and the former rubber mats were replaced with carpeting.

During its production lifespan, the Triumph Spitfire outsold its Abingdon rival every year except one - and that was the year the Canley factory went on strike. Production came to a close in the summer of 1980, ending an 18-year production run.

The 1966 Triumph Spitfire MKII was available as a roadster or a hardtop coupe. The roadster had a base price of $2,155, while the coupe sold for $2,300.
