1976 McLaren M23

As the car that started 25 Grand Prix races, M23-009 occupies a unique spot in history. Driven by Emerson Fittipaldi, James Hunt & Jochen Mass with seven podium finishes. It runs today as a survivor of the era.

Following Fittapaldi's brilliant championship win in 1974, M23-009 was first driven at the start of the 1975 season by Fittipaldi at Argentina. Scoring victory with the car. Later the same car earned Fittipaldi his final Grand Prix victory at Silverstone.

James Hunt drove M23-009 to victory at Silverstone and Brands Hatch in 1976, but retired with an accident at the stateside Grand Prix at Long Beach that same year.

Jochen Mass drove M23-009 in the 1976 race at the Mount Fuji Circuit. That race was later made infamous in Ron Howard's film 'Rush,' where he followed James Hunt until a lap 36 dispute with the Armco. The car has been displayed in the Brooklands Museum for over 25 years.
