1950 Chrysler Royal

Chrysler resumed automobile production, much like most manufacturers, using slightly updated pre-war designs. The Chrysler vehicles were diverse, well-engineered, and catered to up the upscale market. The period advertisement stated 'America's Finest for 1950', 'Be sure you'll be satisfied … Buy Chrysler!' 1950 Chrysler models included the Royal, Windsor, Saratoga, and New Yorker, as well as the Town and Country, which remained the top-of-the-line model. All 1950 Chrysler vehicles were similar from model-to-model with the main differences being the levels of trim, wheelbase lengths, and engines.

1950 was the final year for the Royal nameplate, and the final year Chrysler offered a true wood-bodied car. The Chrysler Royal's design was a carry-over from the previous year with mild updating. Body styles on the standard Royal wheelbase (125.5 inches) included a sedan and a club coupe. The longer wheelbase (139.5 inches) version included an eight-passenger sedan, Town and Country wagon, and a 6-passenger wagon.

The Royal models were identifiable by the 'Royal' nameplates located on the front fender, below the horizontal trim molding. The front and back bumpers were slightly updated with a blade-like appearance, the location for the license plate was moved from the deck lid to the center off the rear bumper. Pricing began at $2,100 for the Club Coupe and rose to over $3,100 for the station wagon. Total Royal production reached 24,687 units which accounted for approximately 14% of Chrysler's total 179,299 production in 1950.
