1958 VerValen Special

1958 VerValen Special 1958 VerValen Special 1958 VerValen Special Bill Devin owned and raced Ferraris in California in the 1950s. Not unlike others, he was intrigued with fiberglass and set about developing his own powerful lightweight sports racers. Devin Enterprises offered kits and completed cars from 1955 to 1964, and any similarity to a certain Italian automaker in the design of the bodies was...purely intentional.

The VerValen Special was built by Henry C. VerValen in 1958 at his home in Townson, Maryland. The home-built Special uses a 750cc/55 horsepower Crosley in-line 4-cylinder engine fitted to a tube frame of VerValen's own design and manufacture. It is cloaked in a Devin 'Monza-style' fiberglass body. The Special was successfully campaigned by VerValen and occasionally by friend George Burke in the Washington, D.C. region SCCA H-Modified Class from the late-1950s to the early 1960s. The car's history is well-documented from its initial build process and throughout its period race history.
