1989 Mercedes-Benz 560 Series

The 1989 Mercedes-Benz 560 Series consisted of the 4-door sedan 560SEL, the 2-door Coupe 560SEC, and the 560SL roadster. The 560SL sold for $64,200, the 560SEL for $72,280, and the 560SEC for $79,850. Power was from an overhead-cam eight-cylinder engine fitted with lightweight alloy block and heads and offering 240 horsepower.

The 560SL was a two-seat grand tourer that carried its occupants in luxury and style while offering plenty of trunk room for the luggage. The 560 SL was a replacement for the 380 SL, whose production had been stifled by the emissions laws in several of its key markets including the United States.

The 560SL had a sporty persona but it was never truly light and nimble sports car. Instead, its primary focus was on comfort and quality of materials and construction. It did, however, have a Bosch KE-Jetronic fuel-injection system, hydraulic disc brakes, and a zero-to-sixty mph time in less than eight seconds.

The 560SL was a very well-equipped car; so much so, that the factory only offered two extra-cost optional items: electrically heated seating and electrically adjustable ergonomic backrests for each of the seats.

In 1989, Mercedes-Benz produced 5,351 examples of the 560 SL.
