BMW Individual: Fulfilling a 17 years of exacting demands
Established in 1991 as a division of BMW M GmbH, BMW Individual was assembled to serve customers who wanted a more distinct BMW with greater design and function. The subsequent 17 years have provided one success after another in rewarding discriminating owners with vehicles that fulfilled their unique demands for personalized style, comfort and utility. Most recently, BMW Individual completed a unique car for the Swiss watch manufacturer Girard-Perregeaux. Today, around 20,000 customers a year from all over the world enjoy this most exclusive way of driving a BMW.

The BMW Individual option will provide 7 Series customers with a selection of distinctive paints and interior treatments allowing them to individualize their vehicle to reflect their own tastes and personality. The BMW Individual 7 Series will be the perfect answer for those special customers who seek the utmost in luxury and look to own a more personalized 7 Series. The finest quality materials used and the exacting workmanship that goes into even the finest details will set the BMW Individual 7 Series apart from other makes.

The paintwork.
In line with the understatement embodied in BMW design language, the experts at BMW Individual always try to harmonize each customer's wishes with the BMW philosophy. The individual paintwork is more than a color: It captivates its customers through its unique brilliance and sophisticated iridescent effects. Fine pigmentation in the Xirallic paint creates subtle nuances that change with the shifting light, giving the surface a new dimension and depth.

With the 2008 7 Series, two variations point up the intrinsic excitement of the color black: Azurite Black metallic and Ruby Black metallic. The elegant, light shades of Moonstone have their own appeal, particularly for buyers in sunny regions: under blue skies, this paint finish shines with a special glamour.

The leather.
The Merino leather used by BMW Individual is characterized by its uniquely refined appeal, extreme durability and comfort. Gentle tanning methods and 'barrel pigmentation' (the dye is not just applied to the surface but penetrates the hide through intensive rotation) give this material its richness of color, strength and durability. The living structure of this leather comes from its natural graining rather than artificial embossing. The finish applied in the semi-aniline process stops fading caused by light, yet keeps the leather breathable.

The combination of all these sophisticated yet gentle processes produces seats that are as soft and as smooth as velvet. BMW Individual will offer customers three color choices of Merino leather: Platinum, Rust Brown and Amarone.

Interior trim.
It's the details that make the difference with BMW Individual, and the interior trim demonstrates that the emphasis on detail is well placed. For example, the unique, high gloss black finish of famous piano makers results only from a time-consuming polishing and finishing process. This is what gives this varnish its unique brilliance. Elegant highlights are added through details on the center console and ceiling grips. No less sophisticated are the two alternative woods, Mahogany and Amarone – both with a high gloss finish.

Core values of the 7 Series continue for '08
In its core values, the 7 Series has not changed at all. Its basic and enduring attributes include –
Highly sophisticated powertrains. The 7 Series offers two of the most sophisticated engines available in the world, in the form of BMW's 4.8-liter V-8 and 6.0-liter V-12. Both engines feature all-aluminum construction, with silicon-impregnated cylinder bores that eliminate the need for heavy cast-iron liners. Both engines also feature BMW's unique Valvetronic valve-control system, which eliminates the need for a conventional throttle by varying valve lift to control acceleration. The resulting efficiency provides excellent power and smooth acceleration with minimum fuel consumption. Both of these engines are backed by BMW's 6-speed STEPTRONIC automatic transmission, which also provide exceptional response and fuel economy.
Aluminum suspension system. Extensive aluminum in the suspension and brakes reduces unsprung weight, improving the suspension's response to bumps and other road irregularities. This contributes to ride comfort and, on any irregular road surfaces, handling as well.
Active Roll Stabilization – reduces body roll or 'lean' in cornering, further improving handling and communicating to driver and passengers alike these cars' great road competence via amazingly 'flat' cornering.
Rack-and-pinion steering with variable ratio and variable assist. Not only is the power assist variable according to road speed; the steering ratio (the number of degrees the steering wheel must be turned to steer the front wheel by one degree) also varies moderately, making the steering 'quicker' as the wheel is turned away from its center position. This fine-tunes steering response to conditions, be it on an Interstate at today's high cruising speeds or maneuvering into a parking space. Note: This is not BMW's Active Steering which, as an option on the 5, 6 and new 3 Series, varies the steering ratio more dramatically.
Massively sized, powerful brakes. 4-wheel ventilated disc brakes are dimensioned 348 mm/13.7 in. front and 345 mm/13.6 in. rear for impressive stopping power.
Generously dimensioned wheels and tires. On the 750s, standard
18 x 8.0 wheels carry 245/50R all-season tires. Optional on 750s and standard on the 760Li are 19 x 9.0 front/19 x 10.0 rear wheels with 245/45 front / 275/40 rear performance tires. The BMW Individual Composition adds 20 x 9.0 front / 20 x 10.0 rear wheels with 245/40R-20 front / 275/35R-20 rear performance tires. # Identically-sized 20-in. wheels (of a different design) and tires are included in the optional Sport Package for 750i and 750Li models.
Lavish luxury, elegant design. With the standard 20-way Comfort Seats on 750 models, the 7 Series becomes even more elegant outside and inside, and discreetly more luxurious as well. The luxury experience begins with stepless door checks – once opened, the door will stay open at any position, not just two or three. The driver is surrounded by innovative ergonomics, lavish materials and finishes, and all-encompassing refinement right down to the smallest details. Occupants enjoy generous space – all the more so for rear passengers in the long-wheelbase models.
Comprehensive safety design and features. From BMW's Inflatable Tubular Structure front-to-rear Head Protection System through standard front/optional rear side-impact airbags to Active Head Restraints and Active Knee Protection (inflatable-airbag knee protection under the instrument panel), every 7 Series model is comprehensively engineered and equipped for a reassuring level of occupant safety.

Optional features: adding even more luxury, technology and road capabilities
Every 7 Series model is lavishly equipped, yet BMW also offers an extensive range of choices, both as packages and stand-alone options, to broaden the Series' sophistication according to customers' personal priorities and preferences. Here, briefly described, are the many possibilities. As the contents of some packages overlap with others, certain packages and options cannot be combined on a given vehicle.

BMW Individual Composition. Available on all three 7 Series models, 750i, 750Li and 760Li, the BMW Individual Composition includes three interior high gloss wood trim choices: Piano Black, Mahogany and Amarone, plus a full Merino leather interior in Platinum, Rust Brown or Amarone. Merino leather features 'barrel pigmentation,' a process that allows the color to penetrate the hide. This creates a material that is unsurpassed in terms of softness, color richness, durability and strength. Merino leather is also noted for its resistance to fading from light exposure. This luxurious leather is complemented by an Alcantara headliner in either Platinum or Anthracite. Doorsills with illuminated BMW Individual finishers and a storage net for the passenger footwell round out the package.

BMW Individual Paint. In addition to the entire range of standard 7 Series paints, the BMW Individual Package allows buyers to upgrade to one of three special Xirallic paints, Azurite Black, Ruby Black or Moonstone.

Sport Package. Available for the 750i and 750Li, this group adds sport suspension, 20-in. wheels with performance tires, sportier exterior details, and a sport steering wheel. Interior wood trim is specific to the Package.

Adaptive Ride Package. Adds Electronic Damping Control and self-leveling rear air suspension to the 750s; these enhancements are standard on the 760Li.

Luxury Seating Package for the 750s. The standard Comfort seats are made even more comfortable with Active Support for the driver's seat (a gentle 'massage' action helps relieve fatigue and discomfort on longer drives) and Active Ventilation on both front seats – augmented by perforated leather that facilitates the flow of ventilation air through the seats. Also included are 3-stage heated rear seats with variable balance of heat between different areas of the cushions and backrests. All these features are standard in the 760Li.

Convenience Package, combining power soft door closing and automatic trunk opening/closing. Available for 750i and 750Li; standard on the 760Li.

Cold Weather Package. Offered on 750s; includes heated steering wheel and rear seats, plus a trunk-into-interior ski bag. These features are standard in the 760Li.

Premium Sound Package, encompassing the legendary 13-speaker, audiophile-quality Logic7 sound system and a convenient in-dash 6-disc CD changer. Available for 750i and 750Li; standard in 760Li.

Rear Entertainment Package, giving rear-seat passengers their own entertainment and feature-control options. Includes a color monitor, 6-disc DVD changer and two headphone jacks; when allowed by the driver, rear passengers can operate certain iDrive functions as well.

Comfort Access eliminates the need to activate a remote to unlock or lock the vehicle, or to insert it into the dash before starting the engine. The system recognizes the authorized driver as he or she approaches and unlocks the vehicle. Úpon exit, the user merely presses a door handle to lock the vehicle.

Active Cruise Control employs a radar sensor unit at the front of the vehicle to sense the speed of vehicles traveling ahead, and accordingly, adjusts the BMW driver's speed to help maintain a safe following distance.

19-in. wheels with performance tires, available as a stand-alone option for both 750 models.

20-in. wheels with performance tires, included in the optional Sport Package on 750 models and in the BMW Individual Composition available on all models.

Heated steering wheel – included in certain packages, but also available as a stand-alone option.

Rear Comfort seats. Incorporating 14-way power adjustment and Active Ventilation, this ultimate luxury rear-compartment seating is optional in the 750Li and standard in the 760Li. It is not available in the regular-wheelbase 750i.

Sirius Satellite Radio – available as an option for all models.

High Definition HD Radio – significantly enhances AM and FM sound quality. The option includes multicasting reception capability, allowing access to additional programming. This option is now priced at $350 for 2008.

Night Vision – uses a thermal imaging camera mounted below the front bumper to help detect objects, using their heat signature, that are difficult for the human eye to identify in low light. The camera's range is up to 300 meters or almost 1,000 feet ahead of the car. Detected objects are displayed in the Control Display monitor with increasing brightness as a function of the heat detected by the camera – making human beings and animals particularly conspicuous.

Power rear/manual side sunshades – optional for the 750 models, standard in the 760Li.

High-gloss Ash interior trim, available at no extra cost for the 750i and 750Li.

Rear climate control and coolbox, available exclusively for the 760Li. Separate left/right climate control for rear passengers; the coolbox is accessible when the rear center armrest is folded down.

Rear-seat side-impact airbags, offered as an option in all models so that customers can decide whether or not to equip their vehicle with this feature.

21-in. Sport wheels and tires, available at local BMW Centers for installation. A variety of other Genuine BMW Accessories is also available through BMW's retail network in the Ú.S.

RENOWNED FILMMAKER STEPHEN GAGHAN SET TO DRIVE THE BMW HYDROGEN 7 ON U.S. ROADWAYS

Academy Award Winning Writer-Director Joins Growing Number of Hollywood Heavyweights As The Latest To Be Given A BMW Hydrogen 7 For Everyday Úse
Woodcliff, NJ - November 2, 2007... Academy and Emmy Award-winner Stephen Gaghan is the latest entertainment industry player to be given a BMW Hydrogen 7 - the first-ever hydrogen-powered luxury sedan - as part of the BMW Hydrogen 7 Pioneer Program, designed to help the company build widespread support of hydrogen-drive vehicles. The Traffic and Syriana writer-director received keys to one of only 25 BMW H7s currently driving on ÚS roadways.

Through the Hydrogen 7 Pioneer Program, BMW is giving industry leaders and prominent figures in entertainment, politics, business and more a BMW Hydrogen 7 to evaluate this technology in daily use for a limited period. Since the launch of the program in August 2007, the company has handed over Hydrogen 7s to the likes of Jay Leno, Will Ferrell, Placido Domingo and fellow Director and Academy Award-winner Davis Guggenheim, who won Oscar® gold in 2007 for his timely and telling work on An Invonvenient Truth.

'When you drive a car as great as the hydrogen BMW and know you're only putting water vapor into the atmosphere, it's such a win. I want other people to know about it,' said Gaghan. 'What I'm hoping to do is get people inspired to create upstream solar hydrogen plants and downstream distribution systems in the form of hydrogen fueling systems to make hydrogen a viable fuel for the future.'

2008 BMW 750Li
The BMW Hydrogen 7 is not a concept car, but a production model vehicle that has successfully met all of the requirements necessary for all regular BMWs. Running in hydrogen mode, the BMW Hydrogen 7 essentially emits nothing but water vapor, representing a major step forward in reducing harmful CO2 emissions.

The BMW Hydrogen 7 is not for sale, rather BMW hopes the vehicle will play a pioneering role in driving forward the hydrogen technologies that will ensure our mobility in the future.
Thus, the hydrogen pioneers will be instrumental in helping people understand that hydrogen technology is here, it is now and it is what the BMW Group believes holds the key to our future mobility.

By harnessing the power and influence of individuals who, like Gaghan, are at the forefront of their respective disciplines, BMW hopes to continue to generate support of hydrogen-drive vehicles in the short term and stimulate demand for a viable hydrogen infrastructure in the long-term.

While Gaghan and BMW's hydrogen pioneers will be the first group in the Ú.S. to be given access to the BMW Hydrogen 7 for limited periods of time, a number of entertainers, politicians, business leaders and more have opted for a BMW Hydrogen 7 as their energy-efficient ride of choice. Those who have recently chosen the vehicle include Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie at the 'Ocean's 13' premiere in Hollywood; Fox Entertainment Chairman Peter Liguori at the FOX All-Star Party in Santa Monica; Richard Gere and Sharon Stone at the Cinema for Peace Gala in Berlin; 'An Inconvenient Truth' producer Davis Guggenheim (Oscar® for the best Documentary Feature); and Best Foreign Language Film Oscar® winner, director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck at the 2007 Academy Awards; among others. The vehicle has also made an impact oversees, with luminaries such as Michael Glos, German Federal Minister for Economy and Technology, and Günter Verheugen, Vice President of the European Commission, world renowned soprano Anna Netrebko and many others, covering more than 1.3 million miles of roadways worldwide to date.

Typically the leader when it comes to introducing the latest and greatest BMW has to offer, the 7 Series is a line of luxury vehicles that has been in production since 1977. BMW's flagship, the 7 Series is only offered as a sedan or extended-length limo. The 7 Series tends to showcase the most futuristic technologies and design offerings before the regular lineup receives them.

Remaining true to its original character from the beginning, the 7 Series has always been the ideal choice for the wealthy car buyer in the market for a roomy and elegant sedan. Set apart from the competition, the elite 7 Series continues to deliver the refinement and power that the German automaker is always known for.

The first 7 Series Luxury offering from BMW was the 1977 E23, and the replacement to the E3 large sedan. This first-generation 7 Series was designed to directly compete with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and was the largest sedan BMW had ever built. Riding a 110.0-inch wheelbase, the E23 measured 191 inches long, 71 inches wide and had a height of 56 inches. With over 285,029 models built during its ten-year lifespan, the BMW E32 7 Series eventually replaced the E23 in 1986.

Assembled in Dingolfing, Germany, the E32 was launched in 1986 and ran until 1994. Riding on a 111.5-inch wheelbase, the successor to the E23 was 2 inches longer, 1.2 inches wider and 1 inch shorter. Weighing in at 3,790 pounds, the luxurious E32 offered exceptional luxurious like a wine cooler, integrated phone and fax machines, double-glazing and traction control system. The E32 also featured a system that kept the windscreen wipers firmly pressed to the glass at high speeds by automatically increasing spring pressure. This car was also offered in an 'L' extended wheelbase version with more rear leg room that the standard model.

Initial engine options were all six-cylinder petrol like the earlier generation, but by 1987 a V12 engine was introduced. The first V12-equipped 7 Series had a 5.0-liter engine that pumped out 296 hp. The base engine in 735i and 735iL models was a 208-hp 3.4-liter inline six-cylinder engine offered for most of the cycle. Standard was a four-speed automatic transmission while a five-speed manual was also available. In 1993 the 282 hp 4.0-liter V8 engine replaced the inline-6 yielding the 740i and 740il. Through the entire run the 750iL was offered. The

Replacing the E32 was the BWM 7 Series E38 in 1994. Assembled in Germany and now Toluca Mexico, the E38 rode on a 115-inch wheelbase, and had an increased length of 196.2 inches, a width of 73.3 inches and a height of 56.5 inches. Launched on February 17, 1994, the E38 was the first 7-series offered with a diesel engine, and the first to offer optional five-speed automatic transmission. Regarded by many 7 Series enthusiasts as the 'finest era' for the 7 Series, the third generation featured much less technology to distract the driver and focused more on the sleek classic lines BMW was famous for. In 1998 the Dynamic Stability Control system debuted across the entire lineup.

The third generation lineup included the standard-wheelbase 740i sedan, the long-wheelbase 740iL and 750iL. Powering the 740s was a 282 hp 4.4-liter V8 engine while the 750iL had a 5.4-liter V12 capable of 326 hp. All of the models came with a five-speed automatic transmission.

Showcased on the new E38 was Xenon headlights, and an integrated satellite navigation system, for the first time offered by a European car manufacturer. Making its big screen debut in 1997, the E38 750i was featured in the James Bond movie, Tomorrow Never Dies. An E38 735i was also featured in The Transporter, driven by Jason Statham in the 2002 movie.

Introduced in 2001 was the fourth generation of the 7-Series, the E65. Proving to be the most controversial version due to its extreme styling and iDrive user problems, the E65 still broke many records and became the best-selling 7-Series model ever, especially after it's 2005 update. Considered by many to be the most radical version, the fourth generation eschewed the more traditional exterior styling cues and instead favored more aggressive devilish looks. Many BMW enthusiasts were unhappy with the look and considered it abrasive and even unrecognizable as a BMW 7 Series. A 2006 revamp certainly helped the design, but the model was definitely not winning any beauty awards at the time.

The first BMW to be powered by hydrogen was the Hydrogen 7. This fourth generation would be the first time that specific chassis codes were used for each version, with the E65 standing for the standard wheelbase model, the E66 as the long-wheelbase model, the E67 as the armored high security model, and the E68 as the Hydrogen 7l. In 2002 there was only a V8 offered, but following that year the lineup would always include a eight- and 12-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

From 2002 through 2005 the 745i and 745Li came equipped with a 325-hp 4.4-liter V8 engine while the 750i and 750Li that succeeded them came with a 360-hp 4.8-liter V8 engine. The performance stayed mostly the same for the 745's and 750s since the 750's were marginally heavier. With a capability of 438hp, the 760Li had a 6.0-liter V12 engine that was offered from 2003 on. From 2004 through 2006 BMW also offered a short wheelbase 760i version.

The interior of the fourth-generation featured an all-in-one system called iDrive, which controlled climate, navigation and audio all in a single console-mounted dial and a central display. Unfortunately the system required a steep learning curve that many drivers found confusing. iDrive continues to be upgraded throughout the years. Though its design was radical, the 7 Series of this generation still offered an excellent driving experience and offered innovative features like adaptive shock absorbers, self-stiffening antiroll bars and self-leveling air springs.

Launched in November 2008, the fifth generation of the 7-Series was a complete redesign and continues to be in production today. The first 7-series where all of the engines are turbocharged, the FO1/F02 became the first 7-series offered with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The only engine not turbocharged is the Asian-market 730i and 730Li variants. The five models offered this generation include the 740i and long-wheelbase 740Li featuring a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-6 capable of 315 hp and 330 lb/ft of torque. The 750i and 750Li are powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 pumping out 400 hp and 450 lb/ft of torque. Standard for the 750 models is a six-speed automatic and all-wheel-drive. The rear-drive only 760Li is powered by a 6.0-liter V12 produced 535 hp and 550 lb/ft of torque. It has an eight-speed automatic as standard.

The first 7-series to utilize an electric motor is the ActiveHybrid7. Rather than the previously chosen MacPherson struts, the front suspension is a double wishbone design.
Inside the limousine-like interior is an exceptional luxurious and spacious interior with sleek leather and rich wood accouterments. Customizable for nearly every body type the front seats are highly adjustable.

A variety of high-tech features like night-vision camera and sideview cameras make the drive as modern as possible. The Dynamic Driving Control systems features four different settings that completely alter the vehicles' driving characteristics and provide a customizable driving option.

Many consider this most current generation to be the most attractive with its sleek bodywork and slimmer trunk lid. Compared to previous editions the iDrive electronics interface has been improved over the years and made user-friendlier. The interior is now much more traditional and the gear selector has been relocated to the center console instead of the steering column. In 2010 the 760Li was debuted, the 740i the following year, and both became the first six-cylinder-powered 7-Series in over 20 years.
