SILVERSTONE SET FOR CLASSIC RAT TRAP

March 11, 2016 by Silverstone Classic

The Boomtown Rats join The Stranglers and Reef on the Silverstone Classic bill

◾Live music shows included free in all entrance tickets

◾Early Bird ticket offer available until the end of March

The Boomtown Rats will lead Friday's live music line-up at this summer's 'Rocking and Racing' Silverstone Classic festival (29-31 July).

With a great line-up already confirmed for Saturday night with Reef and The Stranglers headlining – plus the world's premier Elton John and Thin Lizzy tribute acts performing ahead of The Boomtown Rats on Friday – fans of seventies, eighties and nineties music are in for a memorable weekend at the Home of British Motor Racing. Even more so as public admittance to both concerts is totally free for all those with tickets to the world's biggest classic motor racing festival.

The Boomtown Rats had stand-out number one hits in the late seventies with 'Rat Trap' and 'I Don't Like Mondays' but disbanded in the mid-eighties while frontman Bob Geldof concentrated on his charity work and a solo career. The Irish new wave band, however, reformed in 2013 when in Geldof's own words, he felt it was the right time to 're-Rat, go back to Boomtown and start doing all those great songs once again'. It's a magical musical treat Silverstone Classic visitors can savour in July.

Revving up the crowd for The Boomtown Rats on Friday will be Ultimate Elton who performs many of Elton John's hits and Limehouse Lizzy, which is keeping alive the great compositions of Phil Lynott and Thin Lizzy.

'With The Boomtown Rats, Reef and The Stranglers pumping out their terrific back catalogue of unforgettable hits, we're in for two five star nights of high octane live music at this year's Silverstone Classic,' enthused Nick Wigley, CEO of event organiser Goose Live Events. 'It's clear from the growing demand for weekend tickets that more and more visitors are turning the Classic into a full three-day summer festival. With so much nostalgic racing on the full grand prix circuit, so much fantastic family entertainment on the in-field and now a full bill of outstanding live music line-ups on both Friday and Saturday evenings, one day really isn't enough!'

Great value weekend tickets are available for those wishing to revel in the sounds of The Boomtown Rats and The Stranglers, plus the equally evocative music of flat out V8 and V12 engines. Moreover, those booking before the end of March can take advantage of Early Bird tickets which offer significant savings of up to 17 per cent.

There is even an all-new Family ticket this year, encouraging more parents to experience the non-stop 'Rocking and Racing' weekend with their children. The Family ticket includes camping for two adults and two children across the whole weekend and gives a discount of more than 20 per cent on advance tickets bought individually.

Editor's notes: The Silverstone Classic – which in 2015 celebrated its 25th anniversary – is firmly established as the world's biggest classic motor racing festival. The epic event attracts more than 1,100 race entries and drew a record crowd of more than 100,000 in 2015. The spectacular classic car celebration – winner of the prestigious 'Motorsport Event of the Year Award' as judged by the International Historic Motoring Awards in 2013 – is staged at the famous Silverstone circuit in Northamptonshire, birthplace of the FIA Formula One World Championship and home to the Formula 1 British Grand Prix. The three-day festival features the very best of historic racing covering more than eight decades of motor sport, as well as live music from iconic rock bands (topped by Status Quo in 2015) and a wealth of family entertainment. This includes a free funfair, retail outlets, a host of interactive activities, a two-day classic car auction, air displays plus huge showcases of classic cars often celebrating important milestones in automotive history. In 2015, a record number of 120 car clubs displayed more than 10,000 classic cars. The Silverstone Classic is promoted and organised by Goose Live Events Ltd. Goose manage international events for companies such as AstraZeneca, Harley-Davidson, Bentley, Lamborghini, the Royal Automobile Club and Unilever.

Accreditation: Media accreditation for the 2016 Silverstone Classic and the annual Media Preview at Silverstone on Wednesday 27 April is now open. Media wishing to attend either this summer's Classic or the Media Preview or both should email their request to SC2016accreditation@mpacreative.com.
