1964 Morgan Plus 4 Plus

The Morgan Plus-Four-Plus (or +4+) was introduced in 1963 at the London International Auto Show and although it was met with a chilly silence from the Morgan faithful, it would lead the company into a new and modern direction. It was built on the standard Morgan tube-framed roadster chassis but was given a fiberglass two-seater coupe bodywork rather than the traditional wood-framed open body clad with steel panels. The fiberglass bodywork was fabricated by the firm of E.B. (Staffs) Ltd. in Stoke-On-Trent. Its unusual 'bubble' top was tall and rounded and, according to Morgan lore, was built to accommodate Company president Mr. Peter Morgan. The interior housed a pair of bucket seats, a full complement of instruments, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and some space for luggage.

Production of the Morgan Plus-Four-Plus lasted from 1964 to 1967, with a mere 26 examples built, with most being sent to the United States and Canada.

The engine was a straight 4-cylinder pushrod engine from the Triumph TR4A with a 2,138cc displacement with a pair of Weber carburetors. Output was approximately 110 horsepower. The engine was paired with a four-speed manual transmission with synchromesh on 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear. Disc brakes were at the front, with drums at the rear. The suspension was a Sliding King Pin setup at the front and a solid axle at the rear with conventional leaf springs. This was the same suspension as featured in the +4.

Weighing approximately 1,800 pounds, the Morgan Plus-Four-Plus had a top speed of around 115 mph.
