TIME-WARP FORD ESCORT TAKES CCA BACK TO THE 1970s

TIME-WARP FORD ESCORT TAKES CCA BACK TO THE 1970sA very special 1979 Ford Escort Ghia, in time-warp condition and with less than 4,000 miles on the clock, will be offered at auction by Classic Car Auctions (CCA) at the Warwickshire Exhibition Centre on Saturday 18th June.

Looking as immaculate as the day it left the factory 37 years ago, this car has a fascinating history. It was supplied new to its first owner by Garrings of Newbury in 1979 to be used on trips to his holiday cottage. Spending most of his time in London, the owner barely drove his brand new Escort, keeping it safely in storage.

Several years later, while enquiring at a local garage about replacing a windscreen wiper, the workshop took such an interest in car and its exceptional condition for its age that they went on to buy it. The car was then acquired by its current owner in 2013, still in immaculate, preserved condition, where it has been stored as part of a private collection since.

Now offered for sale having spent the last two years in storage, this unique, wonderfully preserved, right-hand drive manual example will be offered with a sale estimate of between £9,000 and £11,000.

'With this car it takes very little imagination to believe you are sitting in a new Ford in a dealer's showroom in 1979,' comments Guy Lees-Milne, general manager of Classic Car Auction. 'Fords of this era are big news in today's classic car market, and this must be the one of the lowest mileage examples left in existence.'

The stylish Escort Ghia, with its unmistakable square headlights, wooded fascia dashboard, and velour interior with leather trim, would have been a sophisticated choice in 1979, developed specifically for the small, luxury car market.

Offered with a fresh MoT and suitably recommissioned, this highly collectible classic Ford would be a fantastic addition to any low-mileage collection. The car will be accompanied by its history file and the original dealer handbook folder.

'CCA's second sale of the year is just around the corner and we've already had a lot of interest from our customers', concludes Lees-Milne. 'We are expecting a huge turnout on the day with many other very special, low mileage classic which are sure to cause a frenzy among bidders.'
