Maldon, Essex, Tuesday 17th May: JD Classics' legendary ex-Fangio C-Type took victory at the Monaco Historique over the weekend, cementing its place as one of the most consistently successful historic racing cars in current competition. This latest win marks its 24th award in 27 races.

JD Classics' in-house racing driver, Chris Ward, took the wheel for qualifying in what was his very first time racing at Monaco. Ward put in an incredible lap that put him in pole position around two seconds ahead of the nearest competitor.

But it wasn't all smooth sailing. In a wet second qualifying session, the C-Type was in a minor collision with a Ferrari as Ward tried to overtake going into the swimming pool complex. The damage was only cosmetic, and with a quick fix, the C-Type was ready to race on Sunday.

From the very beginning of the race Ward was pulling away from the rest of the pack, settling in to an easy lead while delighting the crowds with some incredible on-the-limit cornering. Within the first ten minutes, Ward had built up a ten second lead before a retirement at Rascasse called the Safety Car into action.

As soon as the incident was cleared, Ward began to storm away from the pack again, maintaining a lead that was up to almost eight seconds by the time he crossed the finish line.

Derek Hood, JD Classics Managing Director, said: 'The JD Classics Competition Department keeps getting better and better – to have won three Monaco Historique events in a row is an incredible achievement for us and a real testament to the talented engineers at our Maldon HQ. Our ex-Fangio C-Type is fast becoming legendary, but our race team work on a huge range of historic competition cars throughout the year – all of which are competing at the very highest level.'
