1981 Lincoln Town Car

The 1980 Lincoln Continental became the Lincoln Town Car for 1981. It brought with it more power and comfort choices and a new Signature Series. New options included wire-spoke aluminum wheels dual-shade paint colors with vinyl roof matching the upper bodyside, class 11 trailer towing package, and self-sealing tires. They came standard with Twin Comfort Lounge seats, six-way power driver's seat, premium bodyside moldings, and coach lamps. 18 body colors were available. Coach and carriage roofs were v. Power was provided from a 302 cubic-inch V8 mated to a four-speed automatic with overdrive. The 351 cubic-inch V8 was no longer available.

Though it had a new name, the Town Car's appearance was similar to the Continental it replaced. It did have a grille pattern that was no longer repeated in the bumper slot. The wheelbase measured 117.3 inches.

The Signature Series included a coach roof, 'Signature Series' script on the rear roof pillar and the instrument panel, six-way power Twin Comfort Lounge seats in special 'pillowed' sew style, seatback robe cords and map pockets, and padded center-pillar upper trim panel with lower carpeting.
