Herndon, VA (July 20, 2016) — Volkswagen of America, Inc. today launched 'Rival Road: GTI v. GLI,' a virtual experience and game that fuels friendly competition between fans of two of Volkswagen's most popular enthusiast vehicles, the Golf GTI and Jetta GLI. Eligible players that enter the Rival Road Contest could win a trip for two to the Fastivus 2016 track event in California. The game can be played now at www.rivalroad.com.

The virtual rivalry is brought to life, as the competition culminates in live remote-control (RC) car races, pitting #TeamGTI against #TeamGLI, on a massive, custom-built, obstacle-filled track. Races will be hosted by professional Volkswagen race car drivers Tanner Foust and Scott Speed on July 26 and 27 in Washington, D.C., and live streamed at https://www.twitch.tv/rivalroad. Fans can tune in to support their favorite team and vote on obstacles that will be raised from the track to thwart opponents. The RC Golf GTI and Jetta GLI vehicles will be operated by professional RC drivers.

The 'Rival Road: GTI v. GLI' is optimized for mobile and can be played on desktop via the microsite. The object of the game is to achieve distance, while dodging obstacles on the course. Fans can support #TeamGTI or #TeamGLI by choosing to race in either model, competing against players from the opposing team, and earning points for distance travelled. For eligible fans that enter the Rival Road Contest, points count toward cumulative scores for #Team GTI or #Team GLI, depending on the team the player has chosen to join.

The team with the highest score at the start of the races on July 26 and 27 will receive a competitive advantage at the live races each day. Gamers can play 'Rival Road: GTI v. GLI' until 10:30pm ET on July 27. Eligible players can also enter the Rival Road Contest for an opportunity to win a trip for two to Fastivus 2016 in California this August, and the opportunity to sit shotgun in a hot lap with Tanner Foust or Scott Speed.*

The Rival Road Contest participant with the highest individual score in a single Game will be announced on July 27 at the live event.

Live Remote Control (RC) Car Races

Volkswagen brings the 'Rival Road: GTI v. GLI' game to life with a massive, custom-built, obstacle-filled, closed course, where professional RC drivers will operate remote control Golf GTI and Jetta GLI vehicles, earning points for speed and laps completed. The event will be live streamed at https://www.twitch.tv/rivalroad, from 5:30–11pm ET on July 26 and 27. There will be nine races each day.

#TeamGTI and #TeamGLI fans can help their respective teams take top honors by tuning in to the live stream and voting on obstacles, including a 'fast track', 'bump & jump', and 'rotation stations' that activate on the track to hinder the opposing team.
