$50 MILLION AT MECUM'S 2016 DAYTIME AUCTION IN MONTEREY• Top Sellers Showcase a Healthy Mix of Classic and Modern Performance

WALWORTH, Wis. – Aug. 26, 2016 – Overall sales totals reached $50 million at the 2016 Mecum Daytime Auction in Monterey, Calif., with strong individual sales topped by several cars that reached or exceeded the million-dollar mark. Headlined this year by three vehicles that hammered at $4.7 million, $4.4 million and $3 million, respectively, the Mecum Daytime Auction hosted a total of 704 high-end classic and collector cars, all of which crossed the Mecum auction block Aug. 18-20. Overall sales totals again surpassed the previous year's totals, this time by a leap of more than $5 million.

The headlining Modern Speed Collection consisted of 11 of the most exclusive, powerful and technologically advanced vehicles on the planet. Of these rare and gorgeous machines, eight of them sold for a total of $6,270,000 in hammer sales. Three from the collection brought individual sales of $1 million or higher including a 2014 McLaren P1, a 2011 Ferrari 599 SA Aperta and a 2006 Bugatti Veyron 16.4.

Several other individual sales topped even those of the Modern Speed group with a 211-mile 2014 Ferrari LaFerrari packing 949 horses gaveling for an estimate-exceeding $4,700,000. The much-heralded 1966 Ford GT40 MkI also pulled in a multimillion-dollar sale price with a high bid of $4,400,000. The auction's third-highest seller was a one-owner, 2,000-mile 2003 Ferrari Enzo that brought $3 million.
