CICELEY MOTORSPORT SET TO EXPAND INTO NEW RENAULT UK CLIO CUP JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPFront-running British Touring Car Championship team Ciceley Motorsport has announced plans to enter the new Renault UK Clio Cup Junior racing category when it launches in 2017.

Ciceley has expanded to run a squad in this year's senior UK Clio Cup that forms part of the BTCC's high-profile events.

Now it is already working on a multi-car entry into the Junior championship that Renault UK and Renault Sport UK announced in late August.

'It makes total sense to us and the number of enquiries we have had already about this has totally convinced us,' commented Ciceley Team Manager and BTCC star Adam Morgan.

'The whole Junior car racing scene needs a fresh approach and this is exactly what Renault UK are providing. This really takes it on to the next level…

'Firstly a mass car manufacturer with a great track record in motor sport as well gives it instant credibility.

'Secondly there's the UK Clio Cup race car – our engineers and drivers all rave about it and suddenly Junior drivers aged 14 to 17 will be able to get going in one of these.

'It's a fantastic opportunity for anyone in that age bracket and we believe this championship is the perfect platform to start a young driver's development ahead of a move into the senior UK Clio Cup and then touring cars. I wish this had been around when I was that age…'

The inaugural Renault UK Clio Cup Junior championship will comprise 12 points-scoring rounds at six race events (dates to be confirmed) and is being positioned at 'club level'. Renault Sport UK estimates that a season's budget to run a car could cost as little as £30,000 for a small privateer entrant.

Specialist company Moorgate Finance Ltd is also able to offer a finance package* for teams or individuals looking to purchase a car (*subject to status). Currently the car costs 43,200 Euros plus VAT.

Cars will be the same as those used in the senior UK Clio Cup with two simple modifications to ensure they meet strict Junior racing regulations:

◾Modified ECU that limits the car to a five-speed gearbox (not six-speed) and a top speed of 100mph

◾Road tyres: Michelin's high-performance Pilot Sport 3 (limited to four per race event to further limit costs)

Ciceley has also said that its Junior team will offer driver coaching from Morgan as well as race and data engineers, a tyre technician and number one and two mechanics – as per its UK Clio Cup operation.

Renault Sport UK's Motorsport Championship Manager Will Fewkes said: 'This very clear intent from Ciceley and hearing their thoughts on the Junior concept is great news for our new championship so soon after its announcement.

'We continue to receive large numbers of calls and emails from current Junior-level teams and individuals who clearly want to be a part of the Renault UK Clio Cup Junior championship.'
