1977 Ford Mustang II

The 1977 Ford Mustang II saw very few styling changes though it was given several new exterior colors choices. In comparison to the 1976 model year, the four- and six-cylinder engines had a decline in power. Body styles included a 2-door Notchback Coupe and 3-door Hatchback. The burled walnut woodgrain interior appliques were replaced by simulated pecan. California models had a variable-venturi carburetor. Vehicles destined for California with a V-6 or V-8 engine were not fitted with a four-speed manual gearbox.

The base overhead cam four-cylinder engine displaced 2.3 liters and offered 90 horsepower. The optional V6 displaced 2.8 liters and delivered 93 horsepower. The 5-liter V* came with 140 horsepower. A four-speed manual gearbox with floor shift controls was standard with a Select-Shift three-speed automatic available as optional equipment.

New options for 1977 included painted cast aluminum spoke wheels, a flip-up removable sunroof, four-way manual bucket seats, simulated wire wheel covers, and high-altitude option. The T-Bar roof package had a wide black band that ran across the top except for the Cobra II models.

The Rallye package came with dual racing mirrors, heavy-duty springs and cooling, rear stabilizer bar, and adjustable shocks. The Sports Performance Package had a 302 V89 with two-barrel carburetor, heavy-duty four-speed manual gearbox, power steering, power brakes, and radial tires. The Ghia Sports Group was available with black or tan body, a vinyl roof and color-coordinated components. They also had a three-spoke sports steering wheel, cast aluminum wheels with chamois-color spoke, and trunk luggage rack. A 2+2 Rallye Appearance Package arrive late in production and replaced the Stallion option. This option package came with dual gold accent stripes on the hood and bodysides, flat black wiper arms, door handles, antenna, and clock cylinders. They also had dual black sport mirrors and argent styled steel wheels with trim rings.

Ghia Nothcback Coupes had a half-vinyl roof, unique wheel covers, body-side moldings with color-keyed vinyl inserts, and pinstripes. The interiors could be fitted with Media Velour cloth with oversized armrests.

The Mustang Mach 1 Hatcbhack models had the 2.8-liter V6 engine and were finished in a black paint treatment on lower bodyside and black panel, dual sport mirrors Mach 1 emblem, and white-letter steel-belted radial tires.

The Cobra II was available in four color choices including white with red, blue or green stripes; or black with gold stripes.
