1998 Ford Mustang

On the first day of sales, the Ford Mustang had an astounding 22,000 orders placed.

The pricing for the 1998 Ford Mustang began at $15,900 - $30,200. Total production for 1998 was 35,447 examples. Models included the Base, GT, and Cobra and body styles included both a coupe and convertible. The base engine was a 3.8 liter V6 with overhead valves and offering 150 horsepower. A 4.6-liter V8 was available on the GT and Cobra models and offered 225 horsepower. Another 4.6 liters with sequential fuel injection offered 305 horsepower.

For 1998, the Mustang was given polished aluminum wheels and a premium sound system with cassette and CD player capability. Other standard equipment included Ford's SecuriLock anti-theft system, power windows, power door locks, power decklid release, remote keyless illuminated entry, and air conditioning. The GT models received a spoiler, sport seats, and an upgraded sound system.

The SVT Cobra was a limited-production model that rode on new five-spoke alloy wheels. The Mustang SVT Cobra pony car was built by the Ford Motor Company through the Special Vehicle Team division. It was a high-performance version of the Mustang built by Ford resting in the model range above the GT model. The 4.6-liter V8 engine offering over 300 horsepower and gave the car a zero-to-sixty mph time of 5 seconds flat.
