1970 Chrysler 300

Chrysler had two models named the '300', one known as the 'letter series' and the other as the 'non-letter' series. The letter series was a high-performance luxury line of automobiles introduced in 1955 and produced through 1965. The non-letter versions were built from 1962 through 1971.

The 1970 Chrysler 300 wore styling first introduced in 1969, known as the 'fuselage styling' with engine options including the 440 and the 440 TNT.

The 1970 Chrysler 300 Series retained the disappearing headlights introduced in prior years, a 300 emblem found in the center of the grille, and new taillight design treatments. They shared a 440 cubic-inch V8 engine with the New Yorker Series and offered 350 horsepower. Inside was an all-vinyl or cloth interior and a TorqueFlite automatic transmission. Body styles included a 4-door hardtop coupe, 4-door hardtop sedan, and convertible. This would be the final year for the convertible body style on the 300 Series.

A special high-performance 300-H was available, built by the Hurst Performance Corp. These special 2-door models had a factory price of $5,845 and just 485 examples were sold. They had saddle-color leather bucket seats, a fiberglass power bulge hood with a functional air scoop, rotary hood latches, and special paint in Spinnaker white. They had Satin Tan color accents and special striping. Under the hood was a 440 CID TNT engine. Other mechanical improvements included a heavy-duty suspension and a heavy-duty battery.

Similarly to Oldsmobile, the 300 was offered with a Hurst 300 option that came trimmed in Spinnaker White and Satin Tan with a leather interior from the Imperial. Power was from a 440 cubic-inch TNT V8 delivering 375 horsepower. Only 485 examples were built. A single convertible was built on the Chrysler 300 line, wearing a white interior.

For the 1971 model year, the convertible was no longer available, as the production of convertibles across the entire Chrysler lineup ceased.

The Non-Letter Chrysler 300 Series was produced by Chrysler from 1962 through 1971. The Chrysler 300 Sport Series was positioned below the letter series and served as a replacement for the Windsor. The exterior appearance was identical to the Letter Car, except for minor differences including the tires, hubcaps, and an absence of H on the rear deck. The 300 Sport Series also added a 4-door hardtop....
