Dakar Challenge Vildosola Stakes His Claim

Company press release.

Dakar Challenge Vildosola Stakes His ClaimMexican Gus Vildosola made the most of the home advantage to put himself in the driving seat of the American leg of the Dakar Challenge. With the Tecate Score Baja 500 over, he still has to finish the job if he wants to be in Rosario next January.

In the North American circuit, the Baja 500 is one of those races that decide the fate of an off-road driver. Those on the start list in Ensenada last weekend also got a shot at the Dakar Challenge. Car drivers got to test their skills on a tough course and against a field studded with first-class Dakar veterans. Robby Gordon confirmed his place at the top of the pecking order by beating former Dakar teammate BJ Baldwin into second place at the end of the Battle of Ensenada. The war for the leadership of the Dakar Challenge was waged a bit further down the classification and was won by Mexico's Vildosola, a specialist who added a new chapter to his story of success at the AmericanBajas since 1996. He and his Trophy Truck only managed to cross the finish line over an hour after Gordon, but Vildosola put clear daylight between himself and the other six drivers who had signed up for the Dakar Challenge. Nevertheless, he is only halfway to achieving his goal for this year, as the Dakar spot on offer for the winner of the American leg of the Dakar Challenge will be awarded at the end of the Eldorado Reno 500, due to be held on July 12 to 14. There, Gus' consistency will be put to the test in a sneak peek of what the Dakar has got in store for him.
