2001 Jaguar XK8

The Jaguar XK8 was first launched in 1996 to replace the XJS. Two body styles were available including the coupe and the convertible. The XK8 was the first in the Jaguar line up to use Jaguars newly developed V8 Engine, The AJ-V8. In 1998 Jaguar added the XKR supercharged to the range.

The 2001 Jaguar E-Type had a shape and design that evoked memories of the classic Jaguar XK120. It was given an integrated rear spoiler, one-piece bumper caps and large 17-inch, 50-series high performance tires. Inside, there was highly polished burled walnut trim on the dash surrounds and deeply recessed analog instruments. On the console is the familiar J-gate shifter which allows semi-manual shifting. The seats are covered in Connolly leather and are wide and relatively flat, without too much side bolstering. With low seating, the driving position is rather 'sporty.' The convertible top can be lowered or raised in just 15 seconds. Power is from a dual overhead-cam 4.0-liter V8 with 32 valves and variable intake cam timing which helped it produce 290 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque. Eighty percent of this torque is available from as low as 1400 rpm, offering impressive off-the-line launch. The electronic five-speed automatic transmission from the German transmission builder ZF features a computer program that communicates with the engine management program to smooth shifting and maximize fuel MPG.
