1986 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

For 1986, Chevrolet restyled the Monte Carlo and added a new luxury LS model. The base models retained the prior year's grille style and quad rectangular headlamps. The LS model, however, was different. They had wide headlamps and a crosshatched grille containing elven vertical dividers and a crest emblem in the center. The parking lamps could be found below the bumper rub strips. Other unique features found on the LS included bodyside moldings, restyled wheels and wheel covers, and semi-wraparound tail lamps.

The Sport Coupe could be purchased with P205/70R14 tires. Other options included a Delco 2000 Series electronically-tuned radio, a tachometer, and passenger visor vanity mirror.

SS Models had aluminum wheels and gas-pressure shock absorbers in both the front and the rear. Power came from a 5-liter V8 offering 180 horsepower. Also standard on the SS models was a four-speed manual gearbox, a rear spoiler, black sport steering wheel, black grille and moldings, sport mirrors, and a tachometer. An additional 200 special Aerocoupe fastback coupes were built at a base price of $14,200.

Monte Carlos came standard with AM radio with digital clock, three-speed overdrive, power steering and brakes, cloth bench seats, dual black mirrors, dual-note horn, full wheel covers, color-keyed bumpers, and stabilizer bars in the front.

For 1986, the base price for the Monte Carlo began at $10,240 and climbed to over $14,000.
