1932 Chrysler Series CG

Walter Chrysler founded the Chrysler Corporation in 1925 from the remnants of the Maxwell Motor Company. The Chrysler Imperial was introduced a year later and served as the top-of-the-line model for much of its history, becoming a standalone brand after the 1954 model year. Chrysler's top-of-the-line models used six-cylinder power through 1931 when an all-new inline 8-cylinder was introduced. The version powering the Chrysler Eight Series CP displaced 240.33 cubic-inch while the 'Chrysler Imperial 8' measured 384.4 cubic inches. The L-head unit had nine main bearings, solid valve lifters, and a Stromberg Model DD-3 carburetor. The styling was also new and equally impressive, with a vee-type radiator, vertical hood louvers, a wide profile with flowing fenders, and a slanted split windshield. The elegant bodies rested on a new double-drop frame design that resulted in a low-slung appearance. Braking was handled by Lockheed-supplied hydraulic brakes and the transmission was a four-speed unit. Luxurious accouterments included adjustable front seats and steering column, dual sun visors, automatic heater control, safety glass, and wire-spoked wheels. Four-point engine mounting and rubber spring shackles minimized engine vibration.

The Chrysler CG was produced during the 1932 model year and into the early part of the 1932 model year. The total production of the CG was 3,228 examples of all body styles including those that received coachwork from custom coachbuilders. The CG became the Series CL, distinguished by a lengthened hood, and the previous vertical louvers were replaced by door-type hood ventilators.
