The mid-engined, two-seater Fiero sports car was the first of its kind built in America. It had a wedge-shaped design with a compact front area with a drag coefficient that was just 0.377. The Fiero was designed by George Milidrag and Hulki Aldikacti. This was the first two-seater Pontiac since the 1926 and 1938 coupes, and also the first and only mass-produced mid-engine sports car by a United States manufacturer. Production of the Fiero lasted from AUgust of 1983 through AUgust of 1988 with 370,168 examples built.
GT Coupe
For 1985, the Fiero was joined by a new Fiero GT model which carried a 173 cubic-inch V6 with a multi-port fuel injection system. The new V6 engine was optional in Fiero Sport Coupes and Fiero SEs. The 1985 Pontiac Fiero was available as a base, Sport Coupe, SE, and GT model. The base engine was an overhead valve 151 cubic-inch four-cylinder engine offering 92 horsepower. The SE models had a fuel-injected 173 cubic-inch V6 rated at 130 horsepower. The appearance was similar to the 1984 Fiero. GT models included new 'Enduraflex' fascias, rocker panel extensions, and an optional decklid spoiler. For 1984, Pontiac produced 136,840 examples of the Fiero.
