2002 Ford Mustang

The fourth generation Mustang was produced from 1994 through 2004. When it made its debut in November of 1993, it represented the first major redesign in fifteen years. It rode on an updated version of the rear-wheel drive Fox platform and wore styling by Patrick Schiavone using design inspiration from earlier Mustangs.

The fourth generation brought back the notchback coupe, a body style not seen since its introduction in 1964. The base engine found in the Mustang was a 3.8-liter overhead valve V6 engine offering 145 horsepower. In 1995, the output was boosted to 150 bhp. A five-speed manual transmission was standard and a four-speed automatic was optional. In 1996, the 302 cubic-inch pushrod small-block V8 engine was replaced after nearly three decades of use, replacing it with a Modular 4.6-liter single overhead cam V8, initially rated at 215 horsepower. In 1996, horsepower raised to 225 bhp.

Ford's New Edge styling theme was applied to the Mustang in 1999, featuring sharper contours, creased in the bodywork, and larger wheel arches. The 3.8-liter V6 was given a new split-port induction system, now producing 190 horsepower. The 4.6-liter V8 in the Mustang GT received a boost in horsepower, now delivering 260 bhp. In 2001, the 3.8-liter engine output rose to 193 bhp.

2002 brought new color choices, new stripes, new option packages, and new radios. The Cobra option was no longer available. The standard engine was the 3.8-liter overhead valve V6 with 193 horsepower, while the GT came with the 4.6-liter SOHC V8. The Saleen version was rated at 285 horsepower and a Series V twin-screw supercharger brought horsepower to over 425 horsepower.
