For 1972, the MG Midget received rounded rear wheel openings. In response to emission regulations, the overhead-valve four-cylinder engine received a modified compression ratio. The 77.9 cubic-inch engine was rated at nearly 55 horsepower. Top speed was achieved at 92 mph with zero-to-sixty taking 15.3 seconds. Body styles included a 2-seat roadster which had a base price of $2,500. Inside, there was a slightly restyled dashboard with a new locking glove box. At all four corners were mag-style wheels riding on radial tires.
