1907 Buick Model G

Two months after taking a ride in a Buick in 1904, William Crapo Durant became a member of the company's board of directors. A partner in the Flint, Michigan Durant-Dort Carriage Company, Durant was impressed with the car built by David Buick, Walter Marr and Eugene Richard and felt it worthy of investment. Durant had soon floated a $300,000 stock issue for what was now the Buick Motor Company. Using his superb salesmanship skills, he was able to sell more than 1,100 Buicks before the firm had built 40.

The 1907 Buick

Very few changes occurred for the Model F Touring and Model G Roadster for 1907 over their 1906 counterparts. The 16-gallon fuel tank was replaced with a smaller, 15-gallon unit. The biggest change was the new 89-inch wheelbase, an increase of two inches over the 1906 models. A new belly pan that enclosed the engine and transmission was also installed. Pricing for the tourer was $1250 while the roadster sold for $1150.

A Buick Model F was entered in the 1906 1,000-mile relay run from Chicago to New York. The Buick was the only competitor to complete the event. This would earn the Model F the nickname 'Old Faithful.'

The Model G Roadster was powered by a 159 cubic-inch horizontally-opposed twin-cylinder engine that delivered 22 horsepower. They had a planetary transmission and two-wheel mechanical brakes.

1907 Buick Models
Buick offered six models in 1907, two of which used two-cylinder engines while the other four had four-cylinder powerplants. The two-cylinder line consisted of a Model F Touring and the Model G Roadster both residing on an 89-inch wheelbase. The Roadster listed at $1,150 and the Tourer was priced at $1,250. Of these two, the tourer was the most popular, with 3,365 examples built, followed by 535 of the roadster.

The four-cylinder Model H was a touring car priced at $1,750, and just 36 were built. The Model K was a roadster selling at $2,500 and a mere 13 examples were built. The Model H had a 102.5-inch wheelbase, and the Model K had a 106.5-inch platform. These two were identical to the Model D and Model S, except they had a two-speed planetary transmission instead of a three-speed sliding gear transmission.

Engines
The two-cylinder engine powering the Model F and G displaced 159 cubic inches, had a cast iron block, a float feed carburetor, and mechanical valve lifters, and produced 22 horsepower at 1,200 RPM. The four-cylinder engine powering the Models D, S, H, and K had a T-head design and a displacement size of 255 cubic inches. It had five main bearings, mechanical valve lifers, a 4.25-inch bore, a 4.5-inch stroke, and produced 30 horsepower.
