For 1997, Pontiac added a Ram Air Performance and Handling Packard to the convertible body styles. Ram Air ragtops were powered by a 5.7-liter V8. The hood had twin scoops with 'Ram Air' logos on each side. There were high-polished dual exhaust tips, and rode on 17-inch aluminum rims. The Pontiac Firebirds with the Sport and Appearance Package came with ground effects, fog lamps, and dual exhausts with cast aluminum extensions. Inside, new features included a console with an auxiliary power outlet for electronic devices, revised storage, and a pull-out cup holder. Air conditioning was now standard equipment along with all-leather power seats. Formula models had disc brakes in the front and rear, a 5.7-liter V8 offering 285 horsepower, touring tires with high-pressure compact spare, and a four-speed automatic transmission.
For 1997, Pontiac produced 32,692 examples of the Firebird.
