The Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class was available as both a coupe and a convertible. They were both luxurious and sporty, with an equally impressive design. The CLK-Class coupe was re-designed for the 2003 model year, but retained a similar appearance to the models from 1998 through 2002. A distinguishable feature was its pillarless body. The Cabriolets had a fully automatic soft-top and sensor-controlled roll bars that were disguised as head restraints. The top could be raised or lowered remotely. The CLK320 Coupe and Cabriolet was powered by a 3.2-liter V6 engine offering 215 horsepower. The CLK500 Coupe was outfitted with a 5-liter V8 which had over 300 horsepower. The CLK55 AMG had a 5.5-liter V8 that produced 362 horsepower. A five-speed-automatic transmission uses TouchShift for manually controlled gear changes.
The CLK320 was available with an Appearance Package which added bigger, lower-profile tries and a larger chrome exhaust. The CLK320 came with 16-inch tires and seven-spoke wheels. The CLK500 rested on 17-inch tires that were wider and lower-profiles at the rear. The CLK500 received larger brakes and an AMG wheel and body design package.
