The Porsche 944, for 1984, received a new DME (Digital Motor Electronics) fuel-injection system, replacing the original Bosch LE-Jetronic fuel injection system. The overhead-cam powerplant displaced 151.3 cubic-inches and developed 143 (SAE) horsepower. The engine was mated to a five-speed manual gearbox or an optional three-speed automatic. Power steering became standard in 1984, as did the power hatch release. Cruise control and an electric tilting sunroof became available as optional equipment.
