1967 Titan MK3

Charles Lucas created the Titan Racing Company in 1965. Lucas was a familiar figure in the sport of racing, as he had success in Formula 3 as both a driver and team owner. When Lucas began creating Formula Fords, he used the designs of his MK3 F3 car as a starting point. The front featured a cigar-shaped sloping nose similar to the design found on the Lotus 41.

The chassis used in the Titan Formula B racers became the basis for the design of the Formula Ford chassis. They were well known for their superior handling and performance.

In the mid-1960s, Charles Lucas, a racing driver and team owner, founded the Titan marque. Charles Lucas Engineering (CLE) built its Formula 3 car - the Titan Mk III - for the 1967 season. The Titan MK1 was a sports racer, and the MKII was an F2 car. Engineer Roy Thomas was responsible for the Titan MK III.

With the help of CLE's prototype downdraught Cosworth MAE engine, the Titan MK III won the first time out at the British Grand Prix meeting at Silverstone in July 1967 with Charles Lucas himself driving. 1967 also saw the birth of a new formula junior series, the Formula Ford. CLE saw this as an opportunity and began adapting a Titan MK III chassis to create the company's first FF design, the Titan MK IV. The MK IV was a very capable car, finishing second in the European FF Championship in 1968 with Tony Timmer at the wheel.

The Titan FF models would continue to progress through MK VI to IX before the firm, by this time re-organized as Titan cars, ceased racing car production in 1976. The company is still in existence as Titan Motorsport & Manufacturing in St Neots, England.

This Titan MK III is believed to have been raced in Formula C in its early years before being upgraded to its current Formula B configuration. The current owner acquired it from the Northwest in 2002 and has actively campaigned it at vintage racing events such as Portland Historics and Road America Historic races. It had both mechanical and cosmetic refurbishments in 2003 and 2004.

Power is from a 1600cc dual overhead cam Lotus-Ford 4-cylinder engine fitted with 2 Weber carburetors. It produces approximately 90 horsepower which is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transaxle. There are also four-wheel disc brakes.
