2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

The Explorer Sport Trac is built in Louisville, Ky., and is available in XLS, XLT, XLT Premium and Adrenalin trims.

Design and Equipment
Versatility is the key to the Sport Trac. It has 29.6 cubic feet of cargo space in its standard cargo bed, which measures 50 inches long and 19.7 inches deep.


Explorer Sport Trac offers three seating packages. Standard on all Explorer Sport Trac models are cloth low-back front bucket seats and a rear 60/40-split bench seat with four-way adjustable head restraints.

Optional on XLT Premium are cloth bucket seats with driver-side, six-way power seat adjustment, recline function and two-way adjustable head restraints. Rear seats have four-way adjustable head restraints.

Leather-trimmed bucket seats, available on XLT Premium and Adrenalin models, have an additional power lumbar adjustment feature and are heated. The leather-trimmed seats have a two-tone appearance with dark bolster and light insert.


The standard floor console includes two large front cup holders, an open front storage area, convenience clip, two pop-out rear cup holders and a hinged armrest that allows access to a removable soft pack storage bag with adjustable shoulder strap.

A deluxe console is available on XLT Premium models. Features include a coin holder, front power point and flow-through rear heater/air conditioning ducts.

Explorer Sport Trac comes standard with an AM/FM/CD stereo. XLT and XLT Premium have two optional audio systems - an 80-watt dual media sound system featuring AM/FM/CD and cassette player woth MP3 capability, or a Pioneer 290-watt audiophile sound system that features an in-dash six-disc CD stereo. For audiophiles, the Adrenalin model comes standard with the 510-watt Pioneer Últimate Audio System. The stereo system features nine speakers, including a subwoofer, and a six-disc in-dash CD player with MP3 capability.

A power moonroof is optional on XLT, XLT Premium and Adrenalin trim levels.

Powertrain
Available in either 4x2 or 4x4 drivetrain configurations, Explorer Sport Trac is powered by a 4.0-liter single-overhead-cam V-6. The engine is mated to a five-speed automatic overdrive transmission. (posted on conceptcarz.com)

With the 4.0-liter V-6 engine, the Explorer Sport Trac is the only SÚV in its class to offer standard flexible-fuel capability.

When properly equipped, the Explorer Sport Trac has a 5,300-pound maximum towing capacity.

Safety
Explorer Sport Trac has several key safety features. The optional Safety Canopy side curtain air bag system provides one of the most advanced side-impact protection systems available on any SÚV.

Four-wheel-disc ABS is standard on Explorer Sport Trac.

Ford's BeltMinder system provides a gentle reminder for the driver to buckle up.

Rear doors have child safety locks, and LATCH child seat mounts are provided in rear seating positions.

Major Equipment and Options
XLS: 4.0L SOHC V-6 engine, five-speed automatic transmission, 3.73:1 rear axle ratio, AM/FM/CD stereo, 16-inch five-spoke cast aluminum wheels, air conditioning, power windows and locks, intermittent wipers, floor console with removable storage bag, front air bags, passive anti-theft system, cloth front bucket seats and split rear bench seat.

XLT adds: Leather-wrapped tilt steering wheel, remote keyless entry with keypad, speed control, Berber floor mats, body-color door handles, black wheel-lip moldings and black dual fold-away power exterior mirrors.

XLT Premium adds: Monochromatic exterior with color-keyed bumpers, fascia, moldings and step bars, fog lamps, 4.10:1 rear axle ratio, automatic headlamps, black step bars, tow hooks (4x4 only), 16-inch bright cast aluminum wheels, electrochrome rearview mirror overhead console with outside temperature and electronic compass and six-way power driver seat with power lumbar support.

Adrenalin adds: 510-watt Pioneer audio system with six-disc CD/MP3 changer and subwoofer, color-keyed bumpers, fascia and moldings, chrome wheels, chrome step bars and unique badging, including embossed head restraints.

Options include heated leather-faced seats, limited-slip rear axle, cargo bed extender, moonroof, Safety Canopy side curtain air bags, hard tonneau cover and 290 stereo with six-disc CD changer and Sirius Satellite capability.
